Wallabies coach Eddie Jones admits \ufeffhe has had limited involvement with the Wallaroos program, and described this week's cry for help as a "secondary issue for me."<\/p>\n

Wallaroos players on Sunday slammed Rugby Australia for what they view as a lack of funding and support for the women's game<\/a>, releasing a strongly worded statement on social media.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"You said our program would go professional, and our coach would be fulltime. How many coaches has Eddie taken to the World Cup?" the statement read in part.<\/p>\n

"You continually say we don't have enough resources and yet we all saw the World Cup send off for the Wallabies."<\/p>\n

Jones was hired by RA in January to coach the Wallabies and "oversee" the Wallaroos until 2027.<\/p>\n

It was trumpeted in a statement as a "world first" role as "Rugby Australia pushes forward towards a professional future for the women's XVs game."<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters from Paris ahead of the Rugby World Cup, Jones was quizzed about the Wallaroos' complaints and what his work in the women's game had entailed.<\/p>\n

"I've got my hands a little bit full here, so that's obviously a secondary issue for me," Jones said.<\/p>\n

"But I think it's wonderful what the Matildas have done for Australian sport and women in general, and we're all hopeful that the Wallaroos will do the same when the time comes about (home World Cup in 2029). And we're all supporting them to do that."<\/p>\n

Jones was also asked whether he'd spent time on the training field with the Wallaroos, who were beaten 41-5 in the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I have been here since January 29th and I don't think I have had a day off," he replied.<\/p>\n

"It has been impossible. I have sat in a couple of meetings with Wallaroos coaching staff but that's the extent of it at the moment. They have a great coach in Jay (Tregonning), he is doing a good job.<\/p>\n

"I have reached out and said if you need anything, come see me or give me a ring. I have met up with the attack coach (Sione Fukofuka) who is up in Brisbane. I have been trying to do what I can but obviously given the situation of me coming in late, it has been reasonably hectic."<\/p>\n

Jones was unclear whether he would have a role with the Wallaroos next year.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"That's not my decision mate. That's the decision of Rugby Australia and (chief executive) Phil Waugh, so I will let him decide that mate."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
