A leading Aboriginal elder has demanded more help for Indigenous players from the rugby league<\/a> community in the wake of former South Sydney<\/a> star Kyle Turner's tragic death last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

John Amatto, a former Rabbitohs lower grade player and coach, has been working with Indigenous players for decades and was broken hearted when he learned of Turner's death.<\/p>\n

"Kyle was a great kid but what happened to him should send alarm bells through the NRL because it could happen to many more young Indigenous players," Amatto told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"Everyone says 'they've done the best they can' – well, if they did, Kyle probably wouldn't be dead.<\/p>\n

"What happened to Kyle could happen to a lot of players because they are not getting enough support.<\/p>\n

"There were clear warning signs there with Kyle when he medically retired at a young age but no one did anything to help him through them.<\/p>\n

"These kids come from the bush to Sydney, then they go back home after retirement and the fame and the money are gone and a lot of them clearly struggle with it.<\/p>\n

"The NRL does have an Indigenous Council but I question what do they do for the Indigenous players.<\/p>\n

\"Former<\/p>\n

"They run the All Stars game, which is great, but they have to do much more to give these guys support.<\/p>\n

"I do my best to mentor players and former players but I am just one person.<\/p>\n

"We need to work together and address the problem these kids face – things like smoking, drinking and gambling are real problems but no one seems prepared to tackle them."<\/p>\n

ANOTHER KNIGHT JETTING OFF\ufeff<\/h3>\n

The Knights are set to lose a second player to the Super League this week with experienced halfback Adam Clune close to signing a deal with Huddersfield.<\/p>\n

Wide World of Sports revealed earlier in the week that talented fullback Lachie Miller was poised to sign with Leeds and Clune is now set to follow.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old from Orange did a good job replacing the injured Jackson Hastings last weekend, scoring a try in the 29-10 win over South Sydney.<\/p>\n

But Clune has spent much of the season as Hastings' back-up and sees greater opportunity with a long-term deal at Huddersfield.<\/p>\n

Clune has been something of a late bloomer, making his top grade debut at 24 in 2020.<\/p>\n

He played two seasons at the Dragons and is now in his second with the Knights.<\/p>\n

EX-TIGER EYES RETURN TO CONCORD\ufeff<\/h3>\n

With chief executive Justin Pascoe under more and more pressure at the Tigers, don't be surprised if the club goes back to one of its own to replace him.<\/p>\n

Eels boss Mark O'Neill is a Tigers legend, having playing in the club's 'unwinnable' 2005 grand final fairytale, captaining the team for much of the year.<\/p>\n

O'Neill is rumoured to have had a couple of chats with the Tigers and if the changes keep coming in Tigertown, he may well be back in familiar territory in coming months.<\/p>\n

BROMWICH VOID FILLED AT STORM\ufeff<\/h3>\n

The Storm suffered a major setback this season with the loss of the Bromwich brothers to the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

But there's good news for Melbourne fans, with two young Kiwi brothers set to join the club and possibly fill the void in time.<\/p>\n

Caleb and Jackson Lepou moved to Melbourne from New Zealand this year and were invited to train with the Storm's Flegg squad, where they have been turning heads.<\/p>\n

Caleb (21) is a prop who weighs a hefty 115kg and Jackson (18) can fill in at both half and edge back-rower.<\/p>\n
