The AFL is reportedly considering introducing a longer time period for a kick-in to be reviewed, as they look to overhaul their score review system that cost Adelaide<\/a> a finals berth against Sydney<\/a>, according to The Age<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n

The incident which has been "war-gamed" by league officials, was later confirmed as a goal by the league, with the umpire at the helm of the blunder stood down.<\/p>\n

With Crows' CEO Tim Silvers expressing "disappointment" in the outcome<\/a>, the league has been in discussion\ufeff and is seriously considering allowing the score review system up to eight additional seconds to decide if they want to assess a questionable point.<\/p>\n

The rapid movement of the ball (around five to six seconds) after a behind is called was introduced to speed up the game, with the league's focus on less stoppages in recent seasons.<\/p>\n

"It was a goal umpiring decision that should have been reviewed and that was a mistake. I want to say conclusively that if the decision had been reviewed it would have been overturned, and it would have been a goal," McLachlan said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"It's a human error that happens repeatedly through games across the course of the year, but this is an error that, given the context and the moment, was of great consequence and I want to acknowledge there was a mistake and take accountability for the mistake on behalf of the league."<\/p>\n

Adelaide now miss the finals, taking on West Coast to close out their home and away season.\ufeff<\/p>\n
