League legend Paul Gallen<\/a> has questioned Manly<\/a>'s decision to hand a long-term lucrative contract to struggling youngster Josh Schuster.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is reportedly set to be dropped from the Sea Eagles team ahead of Sunday's clash with Canterbury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That revelation follows a dismal performance in round 25 where Schuster played only 27 minutes in a loss to the Warriors<\/a>, didn't run the ball once and made just eight tackles, as well as an error.<\/p>\n

He has loads of raw talent but the knock has constantly been on his fitness and his desire to work hard to get the best out of his career.<\/p>\n

He was axed by new Manly coach Anthony Seibold<\/a> earlier this year and given a public clip by club captain Daly Cherry-Evans\ufeff, who said "if you're not willing to work hard enough, if you're not willing to sacrifice, you just don't last long (in the NRL)".<\/p>\n

Despite this, the club handed Schuster a three-year contract extension barely two months later, promising him $800,000 a season until the end of 2027.<\/p>\n

Now poised to be dropped to reserve grade for a second time this season, Gallen \ufefftook aim at Manly management.<\/p>\n

"I don't know what they do with him – $800,000 a year until 2027, how has someone signed him to that sort of contract?" Gallen said on 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I always worry about a guy who is that sort of size who is playing in the back row, tells everyone he wants to play five-eighth, then when he gets moved to five-eighth he doesn't do a hell of a lot.<\/p>\n

"Then when he gets moved from five-eighth he doesn't take a run in 20 minutes of the match, I think that's a fair sign he's not fully committed to the team.<\/p>\n

"I don't know what they do about that, that's a very big contract for a long period of time. I don't know how they get out of that one.<\/p>\n

"It's not his fault, someone gave him the contract. So whose fault's that?"<\/p>\n

A few weeks after being axed in April, Schuster starred in a win over Canberra \ufeffand then declared<\/a> "I can be the best player in the game one day".<\/p>\n

At the time, league legends Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler agreed with that assessment.<\/p>\n

"I think everyone can see it," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth<\/em>.<\/p>\n
