A post by the Royal Spanish Football<\/a> Federation has been labelled "gross" for being insensitive to striking players as the team arrived home to a hero's welcome.<\/p>\n

The team arrived in Madrid from Australia on Monday, a day after defeating England 1-0 in Sydney to win the World Cup for the first time.\ufeff<\/p>\n

A Spain flag was waved outside a plane window at Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas. A couple of flight attendants came out of the front door carrying a flag, then Andr\u00e9s, coach Jorge Vilda and federation president Luis Rubiales<\/a> came out offering the trophy.<\/p>\n

But the cloud hanging over the Spain team, who\ufeff became the second nation to win both Men's and Women's FIFA World Cups, continues to hover following the actions of Rubiales, who was scolded internationally for kissing star player Jennifer Hermoso<\/a> during the medal ceremony.<\/p>\n

But now the federation that he leads has come under more criticism for\ufeff posting a photograph of controversial coach Vilda kissing the trophy to Twitter alongside a blunt caption.<\/p>\n

"VILDA IN," the post read, in what many football enthusiasts saw as a dig at striking players who had questioned his managerial style, amid claims of alleged mismanagement.<\/p>\n

Last September, 15 players signed letters that said they were withdrawing from the national team to protect their emotional health and called on the Spanish federation to commit to a more professional environment. The players insisted they did not ask for coach Jorge Vilda's dismissal.<\/p>\n

The Federation went on to threaten players with bans of up to five years, and claimed that the situation was "an unprecedented situation in the history of football, both male and female, in Spain and worldwide."<\/p>\n

The players eventually won improvements in pay and working conditions, but Vilda stayed, with claims the coach created a toxic environment with reports of power imbalances, favouritism, and intimidation.<\/p>\n

One allegation is that Vilda forced his players to leave their bedroom doors open so he could enforce curfews, as well as checking the contents of their bags upon returning from days out.<\/p>\n

ESPN's Caitlin Murray wrote on Twitter regarding the post: "Given that he's been accused of abusive and toxic behaviour, prompting 12 players to refuse Spanish national team call-ups, this is pretty gross," Murray wrote.<\/p>\n

"When the whistle blew, I couldn't help but think of those players. My heart breaks for them."<\/p>\n

GiveMeSport editor Nancy Gillen added: "It's so disheartening to see RFEF already using the win to validate abusive behaviour.<\/p>\n

"Solidarity with the players who have sacrificed this moment because of that."<\/p>\n

Vilda, whose father Angel is \ufeffthe head of the RFEF's women's football department, declared he would do it all again after taking out the final.<\/p>\n

"I've always said that if all the suffering was necessary to become world champions, it would be worth it," Vilda told press.<\/p>\n

"It's been difficult at a personal level in management, but on a sporting level, we've achieved results that we've never achieved before.<\/p>\n

"I am very happy that we are champions of the world."<\/p>\n

The team was paraded on an open bus past some of Madrid's most iconic sites before reaching the celebration spot set up by the Spanish Football Federation and local officials at the Madrid Rio park. Several thousand people were waiting to greet the team after its historic triumph in Australia. A DJ, big screen and other attractions were entertaining fans as they waited for the players.<\/p>\n

During the charter flight to Madrid, players celebrated and chanted together with the World Cup trophy. Captain Ivana Andr\u00e9s gave a speech on the passenger address system. The flight also included federation officials, sponsors, and journalists.<\/p>\n

"Without your energy and support, this wouldn't have been possible," Vilda told fans. "We said that we were going to take you to the streets, and today we are celebrating what we achieved."<\/p>\n
