Newly unveiled Suns<\/a> coach Damien Hardwick<\/a> has laughed off suggestions he will attempt to lure Richmond premiership hero Dustin Martin<\/a> to the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

Hardwick will return to \ufeffthe AFL's coaching fold with the Suns<\/a> next season after he announced his immediate resignation as senior coach of the Tigers<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n

On Monday, \ufeffthe Suns confirmed that Hardwick would fill the coaching vacancy left by the ousted Stuart Dew.<\/p>\n

Quizzed \ufeffif he will ask Martin to make the move north, Hardwick was quick to shut down any further discussion.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffHe's a contracted player at Richmond and all I want to do at the moment is sit back and enjoy the moment that I've got here, you know, my first day at Gold Coast," he told media.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffList management conversations decisions will come in due course."<\/p>\n

Directing the focus back to the Suns' current crop of players, Hardwick said the group had "tremendous potential" and that he was excited for the challenge of developing the team into a "contender for years to come".<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I went through the playing list and looked at how exciting it is. I think 80 per cent of our first premiership side is sitting in this room right now. There'll be a few bits added along the way, but the fact of the matter is this side and this club is very capable of saluting in the not-too-distant future. So that to me is very, very exciting," he said.<\/p>\n

In another attempt for answers around Martin's playing future, Suns' chairman Bob East said he would leave matters of list management to the club's football department.<\/p>\n

"I will probably stay clear of list management\ufeff decisions from the chair at this stage," he said.<\/p>\n

"I look forward to the decisions that the \ufeffguys will make moving forward."<\/p>\n

CEO Mark Evans added: "I might stay out of it too".<\/p>\n

Trade talk surrounding Martin has run rampant given his close ties to Hardwick and the recent retirements<\/a> of Richmond mainstays Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThat discussion is not going to end until we get through trade and free agency period," Jimmy Bartel told Nine's Eddie and Jimmy<\/em><\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

"The obvious link is Hardwick.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffGold Coast have three highly talented players, which they can add to but they need [draft] points so there might be some point swapping and things this like."<\/p>\n

However, Former Collingwood Eddie McGuire was not convinced of the potential deal, instead urging Martin to finish his career in style at Richmond.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWith what they've got at the Golf Coast, why would you get Dustin Martin?," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's 31\ufeff [years of age] … he's not going to go up there for a sun tan \u2014 you'll have to pay him. Why would you do that?<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYou put Dusty [Martin] in every side but I just don't know if Dusty is the right bloke to go up there."<\/p>\n
