French star Gael Monfils<\/a> has broken down into tears in his post-match press conference after a stunning loss to Finnish young gun Emil Ruusuvuori<\/a> ended his Australian Open<\/a> campaign.<\/p>\n

Monfils, seeded No.10 in the men's singles draw, continued his horror run since the COVID-19 layoff in 2020, with Ruusuvuori running out a 3-6 6-4 7-5 3-6 6-3 winner.<\/p>\n

"I don't have any confidence. I would like to get out of this nightmare but I can't," he said after the loss, fighting back tears.<\/p>\n

"I don't know when it's going to end. It's hard. Every time I get here I feel judged, I've lost again.<\/p>\n

\"Gael<\/p>\n

"I can't serve, I'm playing badly. I'm being honest and it's going to take time."<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old said he would use some advice given to him by his mother in order to get himself out of the post-COVID form slump.<\/p>\n

"I'll share the simple advice my mother will give me – 'you have to keep training and it will come back'," he said.<\/p>\n

"That's the only thing."<\/p>\n

While Monfils is left to lick his wounds, Ruusuvuori will face Spain's Pedro Martinez in the second round after Martinez defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in four sets.<\/p>\n
