Adelaide Crows<\/a> CEO Tim Silvers says the \ufeffgoalpost controversy that cruelly ended their finals hopes against Sydney<\/a> will act as fuel for the "devastated" but "resilient group" to find future success.<\/p>\n

Silvers, who faced the media on Sunday, expressed his disappointment in the decision, calling on the league to "get better", but acknowledged his side missed opportunities to secure a victory.<\/p>\n

"The footy Gods have not been smiling on us," Silvers told the media on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"We've been close on so many occasions. Should-a, could-a, would-a.<\/p>\n

"We've got a resilient group. I'm sure this is going to drive us for success in the future."<\/p>\n

But Silvers didn't shy away from \ufeffcalling on the AFL to look into their goal line processes, after the league confirmed the umpire in the middle of the controversy has been stood down for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

"We're a multi-million dollar industry, we need to get better in all parts of the game," Silvers said.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"We're in the heat of this, this happened 18 hours ago, there's a mixture of emotions. Let's review it in the cold heart light of day and make the best decision for the game.<\/p>\n

"There's a human error element but there's also the technology."<\/p>\n

Since the incident, the league\ufeff released a statement backing the umpire's "15 years of experience", but took ownership of not utilising their ARC technology.<\/p>\n

"There were no communications issues between the ARC and the umpires and with the ball being kicked in and returned to play so quickly by Sydney it didn't allow enough time for the ARC to review or field umpires to refer to a review," the statement said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"Upon review, the outcome was conclusive that the decision would have been overturned and it should have been referred to the ARC at the time."<\/p>\n

Silvers was adamant that he doesn't believe the error had anything to do with the Crows being an interstate side, despite frustration from the club's fans at the mistreatment.<\/p>\n

"I'm sure this was just unfortunately a human error. It's a mistake unfortunately we have to live with."<\/p>\n

The CEO didn't lay the sole blame on the incident, focusing instead on the Crows' inability to capitalise on prior "opportunities" to overcome Sydney.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"They're not only devastated about that moment, they're devastated about that game," Silvers said.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"It was an elimination final for our footy club and we didn't come to play in the first half. We had our opportunities in the last quarter and we didn't quite take them.<\/p>\n

"We're disappointed … because of that decision, but also the way we performed and just didn't deliver on the big stage."\ufeff<\/p>\n

As for what happens next, the AFL has confirmed they won't overturn the decision.<\/p>\n

"We'll have ongoing discussions with the AFL. It's pretty clear we had to move really quickly and announce the mistake here," Silvers said.<\/p>\n

"What happens in the future, we will continue to discuss and negotiate with the league.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I acknowledge that they (the AFL) own the mistake."<\/p>\n

It comes after Geelong legend Jimmy Bartel grilled the league and the "absolute disaster" that unfolded at the SCG on Saturday night.<\/a><\/p>\n

"There is not a single way that this wasn't a goal, so the goal umpire's had a mare here," Bartel said on Nine's<\/em> Sunday Footy Show.<\/p>\n

"What they normally do, and this is where the frustration comes, nearly everything's been reviewed this year.<\/p>\n

"It's been an absolute disaster."<\/p>\n

The goal umpire has been stood down for the rest of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n
