Red Bull Racing<\/a> advisor Helmut Marko has implied another year for Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> with AlphaTauri<\/a> is on the cards.<\/p>\n

The Australian made his shock mid-season Formula 1<\/a> return at the Hungarian Grand Prix in place of Nyck De Vries and is on the verge of another season.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo has made just two grand prix starts with the team this year in Hungary<\/a> and Belgium<\/a> before the summer break, finishing 13th and 16th respectively.<\/p>\n

It's all trending in the right direction for the Perth-born pilot who has his sights set on the Red Bull seat currently occupied by Mexico's Sergio Perez.<\/p>\n

Perez has been something of an underperformer relative to teammate Max Verstappen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although he sits second in the drivers' championship, Perez has lagged significantly behind in qualifying throughout the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There were suggestions he could be demoted before the end of his contract, although that seems unlikely now.<\/p>\n

Marko's latest comments suggest Ricciardo is set for another season with AlphaTauri before a potential promotion to Red Bull once Perez's contract expires at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

"Of course you have to know from Daniel Ricciardo what his\u2026 We know his goals, but how to achieve them, whether he is ready to do a full year at AlphaTauri next year with full commitment," Marko told German outlet Motorsport-Magazin.<\/p>\n

Red Bull is also conscious of its junior drivers, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson.<\/p>\n

Honda has been a big supporter of Tsunoda and through its junior development division got the Japanese driver to the top by way of its 'Formula Dream Project'.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although Honda's ties to Red Bull aren't as strong as before, since it pulled out at the end of 2021, the manufacturer will eventually re-join Formula 1 with Aston Martin.<\/p>\n

That could see Tsunoda switch teams, if suggestions Fernando Alonso might retire by 2026 come to fruition.<\/p>\n

"Yuki Tsunoda has steadily improved in and of himself, has his emotions under control for the most part, is now also conditionally capable of driving through a GP," said Marko.<\/p>\n

"Of course, Honda is also involved," he noted.<\/p>\n

Then there's Lawson, who is Red Bull's reserve and test driver.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi is currently competing in the Super Formula series in Japan where he has shone for Honda.<\/p>\n

He sits second overall, just one point adrift of the lead, and is a candidate for promotion to Formula 1.<\/p>\n

If Ricciardo is kept on, then he may have to wait for 2025 if indeed Ricciardo is promoted and Perez is let go.<\/p>\n

"We have alternatives, for example Lawson, who is second in Japan and is very successful there and has made a big leap forward in his whole development since he's been driving in Japan," Marko explained.<\/p>\n

In any case, the Red Bull big wig is happy with Ricciardo's arrival and the impact it has had on team morale.<\/p>\n

The man with a mile-wide smile has had promising results and looks likely to be a points scorer when the season resumes.<\/p>\n

"The change has had a very positive effect, in terms of mood and motivation in the AlphaTauri team," Marko added.<\/p>\n

While de Vries was on average three to five tenths behind, if you adjust all that, Ricciardo is a lot smaller, if not level with Tsunoda.<\/p>\n

"We have nine races left; in these nine races we will watch how it develops.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Tsunoda had a very good race in Spa, maybe in the middle sector when it was raining a bit too much, maybe he could have had a better result.\u00a0<\/p>\n
