Jessica Hull\ufeff has packed Australian records, national titles and an awe-inspiring run at Mount Panorama into one sparkling year \u2014 and a Budapest breakthrough is now in her sights.<\/p>\n

The track golden girl\ufeff from Albion Park in New South Wales is set to chase her first individual global championships medal in Budapest, where a 66-strong Australian team is about to take on the world athletics championships<\/a> in the capital of Hungary.<\/p>\n

At the 19th edition of the world championships, beginning on Saturday, Hull will join Linden Hall and Abbey Caldwell in the women's 1500 metres, and Rose Davies and Lauren Ryan in the women's 5000 metres.<\/p>\n

The Tokyo Olympian kicked off her year with a spellbinding run at the world cross-country championships in Bathurst in February, lifting Australia's mixed 4x2km relay team from \ufeffthird to first in the second leg.<\/p>\n

Once the race had run its course, Hull and her teammates had bronze medals hanging around their necks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe 26-year-old also bagged national titles over 1500 metres, 3000 metres and 5000 metres in the months that followed, and has broken Australian records on four occasions this year.<\/p>\n

Collecting "hardware", as Hull puts it,\ufeff is her next mission.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's pretty stacked, the whole event has moved forward this year, but I think I have every chance," Hull told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"I've definitely prepared that way this year. I'm not going in to run fourth or fifth or sixth; I'm going in to have a crack at a medal.<\/p>\n

"I don't need a medal to validate the work I've done this year, but I'm in a position to chase one.<\/p>\n

"That's something that was a big goal of mine, to be in a position to go with whatever happens in the final.<\/p>\n

"I've got to get to the final first. Step by step in the championship it's not simple, but I've done the preparation to give myself a chance and whatever that looks like I'm going to be pretty proud because I can't have done anything different in training this year. We've nailed everything, which I'm really, really proud of.<\/p>\n

"It'd be a dream to win a medal."\ufeff<\/p>\n

This year alone, middle-distance stars Hull, Hall, Caldwell and Catriona Bisset have broken seven Australian records between them across 800 metres, 1000 metres, 1500 metres, the mile and 3000 metres.<\/p>\n

Hull's fingerprints are all over the Australian athletics record books, so much so that six outdoor and indoor records belong to the former University of Oregon student.<\/p>\n

"I think my hunger for medals is a lot higher than the national records. Medals are forever, the records come and go. They're getting broken left, right and centre\ufeff," Hull said.<\/p>\n

"And at the end of the day, why we do it is to race. The racing isn't always fast … It could be technical or it could be lightning-fast. The records are awesome and they give you great momentum along the way and they're really good for confidence, but the global championships is where we think."<\/p>\n

At last year's world championships in Eugene, Oregon, Hull finished seventh in the women's 1500-metre final\ufeff.<\/p>\n

She will be up against several legends of the sport in Budapest \u2014 Kenya's Faith Kipyegon and the Netherlands' Sifan Hassan over 1500 and 5000 metres, and Ethiopia's Letesenbet Gidey over 5000 metres \u2014 but says she's primed for the challenge.<\/p>\n

"I'm just really, really proud of this year … I'm going into \ufeffa major championships a lot more refreshed than I normally am. I feel like I normally go into a global championships and I want to prove to myself the kind of shape I'm in, whereas I feel like this year I've just kept the training program and everything so simple," Hull said.<\/p>\n

"I've never really sat in my preparation heading into a major championships this close and just been so at ease. I've done everything I could and now it's just about going out there and executing.<\/p>\n
