Sam Walker<\/a>'s appearance in the No.18 jersey for Friday night's do-or-die clash between the Roosters and Eels<\/a> has sparked intrigue around Trent Robinson's team as it reaches striking distance of the top eight for the first time in months.<\/p>\n

The Roosters<\/a>' finals chances had been written off in some quarters after their round 22 loss to the Broncos but back-to-back wins against the Sea Eagles<\/a> and Dolphins<\/a>, along with other results that have fallen their way, have put the Bondi club right back in the race.<\/p>\n

They play an undermanned Parramatta in a virtual elimination match on Friday night and if they can \ufeffwin that they'll have winnable games against the Tigers and the Rabbitohs to close the season.<\/p>\n

Win all three and they'll almost certainly make the eight and be a dangerous floater, given their ingredients include a highly regarded three-time premiership coach, a top class roster and a timely return to form.<\/p>\n

It's with that context in mind that Robinson has to weigh a massive selection call, with Walker picked in the club's 22-man first grade squad<\/a> for the first time in months, having successfully returned from a knee injury in reserve grade last week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to media on Thursday, Robinson made it clear it would take an injury from Luke Keary, Trent Hutchison or Sandon Smith between now and game time to rush Walker back into the side before next week.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"Sam came back, he only trained sort of last week," Robionson said.<\/p>\n

"And so that decision around whether or not to play him, I just needed another week from him."<\/p>\n

Pressed further Robinson added: "He had a good outing last week but he's had four months out, then he trained last week fully, then he trained part of Wednesday\ufeff's session, so it's just getting time on legs for him and getting him back to the point, because we do need to nail it on Sunday (NSW Cup for the Bears) again, where he's fully ready to come back into the NRL."<\/p>\n

While Walker may not yet have a strong enough case to force his way into first grade, both Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler expected the Roosters' to be too strong for an Eels side without star halfback Mitchell Moses.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth's Tips<\/em><\/a>, Fittler pointed out that Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Maika Sivo's returns would boost the Eels but said it wouldn't be enough to overcome the absence of Moses.<\/p>\n
