Katrina Gorry<\/a> has called on the Australian public to stick with the Matildas<\/a> for the final match of their FIFA Women's World Cup<\/a> campaign, admitting it could be the last chance for her and some teammates to pick up silverware at football's pinnacle tournament.<\/p>\n

Australia's \ufeffhistoric run to the ultimate trophy came to an abrupt end with a 3-1 semi-final loss to England<\/a> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

But while the Matildas' dream of a maiden World Cup final is over, the \ufeffteam still has a chance to collect a consolation prize in Saturday's bronze medal match.<\/p>\n

"Australia, we love you, I hope we've made you proud," Gorry told media post-match.<\/p>\n

"There's still so much to go\ufeff for, so don't jump off the bandwagon now, keep on [supporting us] and we'll make you proud."<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the match, Gorry confessed that in \ufeff90 minutes of football, the Matildas' home campaign had been "turned on its head".<\/p>\n

"It's a semi final, small errors can cost you," she said.<\/p>\n

"We created chances but we didn't put them in the back of the net. That's going to cost you in a semi final.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Despite the heartbreak,\ufeff Gorry vowed the side would now turn its attention to the bronze medal match against Sweden.<\/p>\n

"We've got to regroup and we've got to recover \u2014 there's still a lot on the line for us\ufeff. We want to bring home the bronze medal for Australia," she said.<\/p>\n

There was a string of disappointment threaded through all the players as they made their way through the mixed zone after the game.<\/p>\n

With the \ufeffmainstays of the Matildas in the prime of their careers at this World Cup, Gorry forecast a potential aging out by the team's so-called "golden generation"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Everyone is going to be hurting \u2014 the veterans probably more [than the young players in the squad]. We don't really have another World Cup in us," she said.<\/p>\n

"It's a tough one to swallow but we'll get around each other and \ufeffmake sure that we are ready to go for the next game because we want that bronze medal\ufeff \u2014 it's dangling right in front of us.<\/p>\n

"Australia has got us here and we're not going to let it down."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Gorry – mother of two-year-old Harper – beamed at the cultural "shift" at the heart of both football and women's sport in Australia, which has played out right through the World Cup.<\/p>\n

"My little one is walking around saying, 'Up the Tillies', so I think it is pretty special to be raising a child with such incredible, amazing, inspiring women [to look up to]," she said.<\/p>\n
