Queensland great Darren Lockyer<\/a> has cast doubt over the Titans 10-year deal for Tino Fa'asuamaleaui<\/a>\ufeff, declaring "there's more risk on the side of the Titans".<\/p>\n

The prop's deal means he's likely to play out the rest of his career at the club as they search for a maiden premiership under Des Hasler<\/a> from next season.<\/p>\n

Following \ufeffFa'asuamaleaui\ufeff's $12 million contract, Broncos star Payne Haas re-signed four days later on a deal reportedly worth $3.6m over three years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both contracts have effectively shaken up the player market for forwards and Lockyer believes \ufeffFa'asuamaleaui\ufeff's is a "risk".<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWe're talking about Payne Haas at the Broncos and the money he's going to be on, it's not like it's foreign to pay a front row forward big dollars like that," he said on Wide World of Sports' QLDER<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Without understanding every bit of detail of the deal, I think 10 years is a long time (for Fa'asuamaleaui). I think there's more risk on the side of the Titans than there is for Tino but again we don't know the finer details in the deal."<\/p>\n

Fa'asuamaleaui joins Jason Taumololo and Daly Cherry-Evans in signing historic long-term deals.<\/p>\n

When referencing the Cowboys star's contract, Lockyer questioned how long \ufeffFa'asuamaleaui can stay fully fit from playing in the middle of the field.<\/p>\n

"We all questioned when Jason Taumololo signed for \ufeff10 years and he was arguably the best forward in the game at the time," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's a long time for a forward to stay at their peak \ufeffbut the Titans have invested in him, he's a good person, he's a good leader, I've got no doubt he won't let them down from the perspective of effort, it's just whether he can do it year on year and his body can keep doing it."<\/p>\n

Along with \ufeffFa'asuamaleaui re-signing, fellow Origin star David Fifita also inked a three-year deal with the Titans.<\/p>\n

Lockyer added "the other risk" of both contracts comes from having a significant amount of the salary cap tied up in forwards. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think that's the other risk to it, we talk \ufeffabout how important the spine is to a team's chances and you should be looking to be investing in there first," he said.<\/p>\n
