Matildas<\/a> goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold has declared she is ready should she be called upon to take another penalty kick in their FIFA Women's World Cup<\/a> semi-final against England.<\/p>\n

Arnold was the hero of the Matilda's 6-7 marathon shootout win over France<\/a>, but had the opportunity to end the shootout off her own boot.<\/p>\n

Arnold had moments earlier got fingertips on \u00c8ve P\u00e9risset's penalty that crashed into the post.<\/p>\n

But the Aussie 'keeper hit the post herself, extending the shootout into sudden death.<\/p>\n

"I'm ready if I have to take one tomorrow, (but) hopefully I don't," she told media on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\"Mackenzie<\/p>\n

"The penalty order was called upon with me fifth in the line, and I wanted to try and do my job for the team. Unfortunately on that specific instance, I didn't."<\/p>\n

After that heartbreak, Arnold had only moments to compose herself before facing up to the next French penalty from Grace Geyoro, which she nearly saved.<\/p>\n

She would go on to make another crucial save before Cortnee Vine finally slotted the winning shot.<\/p>\n

Gustavsson said after the game Arnold's composure had been "unbelievable".<\/p>\n

Arnold said the days since the shootout had been "a whirlwind". Streets in Melbourne have been named after her, and a renewed push has been made for goalkeeper kits to be available as merchandise.<\/p>\n

"It's probably the first time I've received attention like that," she said. "But at the same time, I just tend to block it out because \u2026 if I play like shit tomorrow, it could be a whole different attention on me."<\/p>\n

Coach Tony Gustavsson said Arnold was called upon so early in the shootout due to her form when they had practised penalties at training.<\/p>\n

"We've done a tremendous amount of preparation for (penalties), both when it comes to the goalkeeper action on the line and timing of that, which Macca was brilliant at.<\/p>\n

"But also when she's taken PKs (penalty kicks) as well \u2013 Macca has been outstanding in training in terms of statistics and the way she strikes the ball, you can see how good she is with her feet and her mental strength."<\/p>\n

It wasn't the first time Arnold had taken a penalty kick, but it was the first time she'd done it in Australian colours.<\/p>\n
