T\ufeffhe Wests Tigers<\/a> have reportedly moved to end the tenure of head coach Tim Sheens<\/a> effective immediately.<\/p>\n

The Sydney Morning Herald reports<\/a> Sheens \ufeffhasn't been seen at Concord in the past couple of days, and is expected to officially hand the reins to coach-in-waiting Benji Marshall.<\/p>\n

Sheens controversially helped axe Michael Maguire as coach last year<\/a> when he was head of football, and then assumed the role himself as part of a succession plan involving Marshall.<\/p>\n

The idea was for Sheens to be head coach for this season and next while mentoring Marshall, who would then take over in 2025.\ufeff<\/p>\n

That process seems to have been brought forward a year with Sheens not expected to act as coach again, despite three rounds remaining this season.<\/p>\n

The Herald reports Sheens will also not return to his general manager of football role, but may still be affiliated with the club in an ambassador position.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Tigers sit last on the ladder with only three wins this season, and are heading towards a second straight NRL wooden spoon.<\/p>\n

Sheens, 72, coached the Tigers to the famous 2005 premiership victory when the team featured a young Marshall and his halves partner Scott Prince.<\/p>\n
