The French<\/a> backline has been dealt an enormous blow with confirmation Romain Ntamack has been ruled out of this year's Rugby World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the second half of the 30-27 win over Scotland, the flyhalf ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.<\/p>\n

Ntamack is set to be replaced by his understudy Matthieu Jalibert.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It's the second such injury casualty for France in two days after Cyril Baille was ruled out for up to six weeks with a calf injury.<\/p>\n

Ntamack's absence breaks up the devastating combination alongside Antoine Dupont.<\/p>\n

"A massive blow for them," said former All Blacks scrum-half Justin Marshall on SENZ's mornings with Ian Smith.<\/p>\n

"Especially Ntamack. As you rightly mentioned, Smithy, and you know your rugby well, that combination with Dupont is huge for France.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"They've played throughout the age grades, they know each other really well, and have formulated such a great pairing recently for France.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"They're the catalyst of what sets that really exciting backline alight. Him missing from the side is a huge blow, a massive blow for France and equally for the way they play.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"That's the main thing out of it all; the way they play with Ntamack and Dupont when they're the generals is completely different to how they're going to have to play now and adapt.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's going to be interesting to see what effect that has and we'll know in that first game big time."<\/p>\n

France came into this year's Rugby World Cup among the favourites under head coach Fabien Galthie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Blues have never won the title and splitting the Ntamack and Dupont combination will significantly weaken their backline.<\/p>\n

The Wallabies will play France in their final Rugby World Cup warm-up match on August 28.\u00a0<\/p>\n
