Venues NSW will have a new boss in the form of former NRL<\/a> chief executive officer David Gallop<\/a> after Labor ex-premier Morris Iemma stepped down.<\/p>\n

Iemma resigned from the chairman role last week due to health concerns, NSW Sports Minister Steve Kamper confirmed on Monday.<\/p>\n

"The reasons for Morris' resignation are due to a medical episode and the requirement for ongoing treatment," Kamper's statement read. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Gallop, who \ufeffwill now take the reigns, was also previously chief executive officer of Football Federation Australia<\/a> from 2012 to 2019, after finishing with the NRL in June 2012.<\/p>\n

"David Gallop AM is a well-recognised and accomplished sports administrator, having led the NRL and FFA over a period of 20 years," Kamper said.<\/p>\n

"David will bring valuable experience working with international organisations including FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation to the role."<\/p>\n

In a statement reported by The Sydney Morning Herald<\/em><\/a>, Gallop said the venues, which includes the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium, are "hallowed turf" for him.<\/p>\n

"I have always thought that the Venues NSW was an organisation that I could bring considerable experience and value to. I know many of the current board members and hold them in high regard," he said.<\/p>\n

"The venues themselves are truly hallowed turf for me. I started going to Test cricket at the SCG as a 10-year-old seeing Ashley Mallet take the wicket to win the Ashes in '74-'75.<\/p>\n

"I vividly recall standing on a wooden seat to see my first game of rugby league \u2013 the never repeated day Newtown beat St George 1-0. I have had many great days and nights at all the other venues."<\/p>\n

Gallop comes into the role as the Matildas continue their dream run in the World Cup.<\/p>\n

The Venues boss said their success had \ufeffshown the "power of sport and particularly women's sport".<\/p>\n

"I have watched with pride and excitement given my previous role in football which included commencing the bid process for the tournament with the federal government," Gallop said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
