NRL icon Paul Gallen<\/a> has \ufeffquestioned the length of Tino Fa'asuamaleaui<\/a>'s 10-year contract renewal at the Gold Coast Titans<\/a> as they prepare for a new regime under Des Hasler next season.<\/p>\n

The Titans captain and prop signed on last week with the club on a deal believed to be worth $12 million, creating a significant disruption to the player market.<\/p>\n

\ufeffFa'asuamaleaui joins players like Jason Taumololo and Daly Cherry-Evans in signing record long-term deals, and Gallen had one question over it.<\/p>\n

"He's the real deal \ufeffTino, he's up there with Payne Haas as the best front rower in the competition I believe and I was pretty optimistic about this contract, I thought it wasn't a bad deal," he said on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"But to sign a front rower to a 10-year deal when you haven't got a lot around you (is risky). The last 10-year deal was Jason Taumololo, he had a guy named Johnathan Thurston beside him who was able to attract players and help him get through the game.<\/p>\n

"Tino hasn't got much around him up there at the Gold Coast Titans at the moment so a lot's going to fall on his shoulders. Well done to him for getting the contract but you've just got to ask the question: is signing a front-rower for 10 years the right thing to do?<\/p>\n

"I think he was in the box seat as far as the club goes, the club can't afford to lose him but it's a big deal."<\/p>\n

The Origin star came on to the open market after the club sacked Justin Holbrook along with David Fifita who also signed on for a rich $3m three-year deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With those two forwards taking up a fair chunk of the Titans salary cap, Gallen believes it is a "risk" for the club. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"The spine is probably the most important of your team but then you definitely need one or two quality front rowers, which he is, but if you've got 10 per cent of your cap where does that leave your squad?," he added.<\/p>\n
