E\ufeffssendon legend Matthew Lloyd<\/a> has grilled young Geelong<\/a> midfielder Max Holmes, saying his poor performance in their loss to Collingwood<\/a> is "symbolic" of the Cats substandard season.<\/p>\n

Geelong went down to the ladder-leading Magpies by eight points on Friday night, forcing them to now win their last two matches and rely on other results to make finals.<\/p>\n

It's a stark difference to where the Cats were last year, on their way to a 16-game win streak and fourth premiership since 2007.<\/p>\n

"I just \ufeffdidn't like what Holmes produced on the weekend. He was coughing the ball\ufeff up badly," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"He panicked, time and time again when it became a contested, tough game. He just panicked and coughed it up."<\/p>\n

The Cats, who sit in 11th on the ladder with 10 wins to their name, have lost three of their last four outings.<\/p>\n

Holmes had just 13 touches in Friday's disappointing loss\ufeff, with only 14 disposals against Port Adelaide the week before, below his season average of 18.8.<\/p>\n

"That summed up their last period. I think he was symbolic\ufeff of Geelong the other night, when it was there to be won, players getting fumbly and nervous."<\/p>\n

Despite a plethora of injuries, including three-time premiership forward Tom Hawkins (hamstring) and utility Mark Blicavs (hamstring), Lloyd believes it is no excuse for the Cats form slump.<\/p>\n

"He's (Holmes) got to ramp it up in these last couple of weeks\ufeff, because he let himself down when it mattered most on Friday night," he said.<\/p>\n
