Ben Grice, the son of Bathurst 1000<\/a> legend Allan, has taken aim at National Trans Am Series<\/a> organisers for cars he says are prone to failure and dangerous.<\/p>\n

Grice suffered his second significant driveline failure this season in race three of the series at Queensland Raceway, suffering another DNF.<\/p>\n

He was on course for a podium finish having climbed 14 positions until the clutch pedal reportedly went to the floor after the gearbox let go.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the year, a similar failure resulted in a harrowing crash after James Simpson slammed into the back of Grice and rolled at Symmons Plains.<\/p>\n

In that instance, Grice slowed but couldn't get away from the racing line for fear of starting a grass fire. In the second, he pulled off the road and rolled to a stop at the pit exit.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Stan Sport's Chris Stubbs after the race three drama, Grice called for a major overhaul of the car's internals.<\/p>\n

"It's pretty rough," said Grice.<\/p>\n

"I can't believe it. We were coming. We were going forward on some fresh tyres and having good fun.<\/p>\n

\"Ben<\/p>\n

"But it's just become a joke, the technical driveline component failures we keep having in these cars. It nearly killed me in Tasmania and it's happened again.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"No wonder that the fields are dropping if this stuff keeps happening.<\/p>\n

"They've just got to get on with it and put a proper Holinger gearbox in it and be done with it so we can all have wonderful motor racing."<\/p>\n

Grice's latest failure followed a race-ending incident in the weekend opener at Queensland Raceway, which caused so much damage he couldn't contest race two.<\/p>\n

He hailed the effort of his team to get the car re-built overnight despite considerations they might abandon the weekend entirely.<\/p>\n

"Best bunch of guys I could ever ask for," said Grice of the rebuild.<\/p>\n

"That thing had a really big hit in the door yesterday. Strong cars, just need to fix up some issues."<\/p>\n

Race three was won by Tom Hayman, who led from lights-to-flag.<\/p>\n

Edan Thornburrow was an early contender for a podium until his Garry Rogers Motorsport teammate James Moffat squeezed the teenager and spun out.<\/p>\n

Moffat well to last while Thornburrow got bogged down trying to avoid the spinning car and copped a whack from Cody Gillis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the head of the field, Hayman skipped away with Lochie Dalton a distant second having avoided the turn three carnage to rise from sixth while Elliot Barbour was third.<\/p>\n

Thornburrow tried to recover his lost ground but went off the road at turn three and beached himself in the gravel trap.<\/p>\n

His car cried no more shortly after extracting himself the depths of the run-off and the safety car was drawn.<\/p>\n

In the end, the race finished under yellow with victory going the way of Hayman with Dalton and Barbour completing the podium.<\/p>\n

Despite spinning on lap one, Moffat recovered to finish fourth ahead of Brett Holdsworth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
