A\ufeffustralian<\/a> defender Alanna Kennedy was lucky to avoid a card as the referee missed a blatant shirt pull in the early stages of the quarter-final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The FIFA Women's World Cup<\/a> tie in Brisbane was barely 10 minutes old when Kennedy failed to properly clear the ball from her defensive half.<\/p>\n

Her errant right boot only propelled the ball the wrong way, allowing French striker \ufeffKadidiatou Diani to sprint past Kennedy and gain possession.<\/p>\n

AS IT HAPPENED:<\/strong> Matildas vs France in the World Cup quarter final\ufeff<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But as \ufeffDiani steamed towards goal with only 'keeper Mackenzie Arnold left in her way, she lost possession when Kennedy tugged at her shirt.<\/p>\n

The referee allowed play to continue and Australia regained control, thwarting the French attack.<\/p>\n

Former Matildas representative Amy Chapman conceded Kennedy was lucky.<\/p>\n

"Kennedy made a big mistake on this clearance… but she is so lucky not to get a card here," Chapman said.<\/p>\n

"She has clearly pulled on the shirt of Diani.<\/p>\n

"Diani is furious with that decision, and rightly so\ufeff."<\/p>\n
