Mickelson&#x27;s management group did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment.<\/p>\n<p>Walters is widely regarded as America&#x27;s most famous gambler who claims to have a winning streak of more than 30 straight years.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"6ab4dde4-e10a-47f9-a9a6-bc61ac51b028\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/6ab4dde4-e10a-47f9-a9a6-bc61ac51b028\" alt=\"Phil Mickelson finished second at the Masters.\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said he ended his betting partnership with Mickelson in 2014. Two years later, Mickelson was a relief defendant in Walters&#x27; insider trading case. Mickelson was never charged and had to repay about $1.5 million he made off a stock deal. Walters was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. He said he could have avoided prison if Mickelson had told a \u201csimple truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walters said he never told Mickelson he had inside information on Dean Foods stock.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll Phil had to do was publicly say it. He refused,\u201d Walters wrote. \u201cThe outcome cost me my freedom, tens of millions of dollars and a heartbreak I still struggle with daily. While I was in prison, my daughter committed suicide \u2014 I still believe I could have saved her if I&#x27;d been on the outside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walters said Mickelson told him he had two offshore accounts, and that Mickelson had limits of $600,000 on college games and $600,000 on the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>He said based on his detailed record and additional records provided by sources, Mickelson&#x27;s gambling between 2010 and 2014 included:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Betting $168,000 to win $153,000 on 1,115 occasions, and betting $337,000 to win $306,000 on 858 occasions. That alone comes out to just over $477 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mickelson in 2011 made 3,154 bets for the year and on one day (June 22) he placed 43 bets on Major League Baseball games that resulted in $220,125 losses.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"4c875fc5-9ea9-4391-abb3-2ff9d5572e96\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/4c875fc5-9ea9-4391-abb3-2ff9d5572e96-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Phil Mickelson reacts on the 14th green during day one of the LIV Golf Invitational in Bedminster.\" data-width=\"3000\" data-height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 He placed 7,065 bets on football, basketball and baseball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on our relationship and what I\u2019ve since learned from others, Phil\u2019s gambling losses approached not $61 million as has been previously reported, but much closer to $153 million. In all, he wagered a total of more than $1 billion during the past three decades,\u201d Walters wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only other person I know who surpassed that kind of volume is me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walters said they met for the first time at the 2006 AT&amp;T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and formed a betting partnership two years later.<\/p>\n<p>Most stunning to Walters, he writes in the excerpt, was a phone call from the Ryder Cup in 2012 at Medinah. He said Mickelson was so confident he asked Walters to bet $600,000 for him on the U.S. winning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could not believe what I was hearing,\u201d Walters wrote. &quot;&#x27;Have you lost your (expletive) mind?&#x27; I told him, \u2018Don\u2019t you remember what happened to Pete Rose?&#x27; The former Cincinnati Reds manager was banned from baseball for betting on his own team. \u2018You\u2019re seen as a modern-day Arnold Palmer,\u2019 I added. \u2018You\u2019d risk all that for this?\u2019 I want no part of it.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He said Mickelson replied, \u201cAlright, alright.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea whether Phil placed the bet elsewhere. Hopefully, he came to his senses,\u201d Walters wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Europe rallied from a 10-6 deficit on Sunday, staging the greatest comeback by a visiting team. Mickelson and Keegan Bradley won three straight matches before Mickelson urged U.S. captain Davis Love III to rest them Saturday afternoon. Mickelson lost his singles match to Justin Rose, a pivotal moment in Europe&#x27;s comeback.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"b66ca225-1a28-4af4-9aa2-ffa44c54c607\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/b66ca225-1a28-4af4-9aa2-ffa44c54c607-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"3532\" data-height=\"2430\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The PGA Tour suspended Mickelson in early 2022 for helping Saudi-backed LIV Golf recruit PGA Tour players. He signed with LIV for a bonus reported to be upward of $230 million.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Sports Illustrated last year, Mickelson was asked about speculation he was having financial troubles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy gambling got to a point of being reckless and embarrassing. I had to address it,\u201d Mickelson said in the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGambling has been part of my life ever since I can remember. But about a decade ago is when I would say it became reckless,\u201d he said. &quot;It\u2019s embarrassing. I don\u2019t like that people know. The fact is I\u2019ve been dealing with it for some time. (Wife) Amy has been very supportive of it and with me and the process. We\u2019re at place after many years where I feel comfortable with where that is. It isn\u2019t a threat to me or my financial security. It was just a number of poor decisions.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Walters was so successful with his gambling operation that bookmakers often limited the amount of his wagers. He would partner with others who had larger limits.
