The Brisbane Broncos<\/a> are still too "immature" to beat a full-strength Panthers<\/a> side to the NRL<\/a> premiership, Phil Gould<\/a> believes.<\/p>\n

Outside the Panthers, the Broncos have been the form club of 2023. The two sides are tied at the top of the ladder, although the Panthers still have a round 25 bye up their sleeve.<\/p>\n

They are 1-1 from their two meetings this year. The Broncos won their round one clash 13-12 at BlueBet Stadium thanks to a 70th minute Adam Reynolds<\/a> field goal, but the Panthers won the round 12 return fixture at Suncorp Stadium 15-4.<\/p>\n

Despite this, Gould said all things being equal, he can't see anyone stopping the Panthers winning their third-straight premiership.<\/p>\n

"I think they're a bit immature yet to be beating Panthers, who are hardened," he said of the Broncos on Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles with Gus<\/em> podcast.<\/p>\n

"They are (a good side), it's whether or not they can score enough points, given what the Panthers will put on them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It'll come down to the best defence. I can't compare the Broncos' defensive system to the Panthers' defensive system. The Panthers will be best under pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"If the Broncos have a day out, if Reece Walsh has a day out, if Adam Reynolds has a day out, I suppose they can beat anyone.<\/p>\n

"I'm not saying it can't happen, but I think Penrith will win the comp. Of the others, the contenders are falling away pretty quickly.<\/p>\n

"It depends on Adam Reynolds if he's fit and well come that part of the year. They've got to win one (premiership) in the next couple of years because I'm not sure how much time he's got left in him."<\/p>\n

Gould agreed the Broncos were the next best side behind the Panthers, but says there is daylight between them.<\/p>\n

The Broncos earned a gritty win over the in-form Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday afternoon. But Gould said both sides would lose should they play like that against Penrith or Melbourne.<\/p>\n

"The game looked great because they were playing against each other. I think if either of those sides play like that against Penrith (or) Melbourne \u2026 they'd both lose.<\/p>\n

"Melbourne are more controlled and more defence-minded. I don't think Brisbane or the Cowboys would get away with what they got away with against each other."<\/p>\n
