S\ufeffydney Swans<\/a> small forward Tom Papley<\/a> has confirmed he will keep his controversial gambling podcast alive, despite coming under fire from the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling.<\/p>\n

Papley has been in the spotlight for his podcast 'The Early Crow' which he co-hosts with Jack Dickens, giving betting tips on "all things" sport.<\/p>\n

The Office of Responsible Gambling have also issued the Swans a "please explain" regarding the messaging and content of the podcast.<\/p>\n

The AFL's betting policy strictly prohibits any players, staff and officials from gambling on AFL matches.<\/p>\n

"While there is no affiliation between the Swans and the aforementioned podcast, we have raised concerns directly with the Swans, who are treating the matter very seriously," a Responsible Gambling Office spokesperson said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Sydney chairman Andrew Pridham explained that the club was "disappointed" in Papley's choices, and confirmed they are not affiliated with the external podcast.<\/p>\n

"I think we're well aware of it and it's something we want to manage carefully," Pridham told NewsCorp.<\/p>\n

"We obviously have a lot of corporate partners and GambleAware is one of them. It's important to us that we respect those corporate partners."<\/p>\n

Papley spoke on the issue for the first time on Thursday, via a video posted to 'The Early Crow' Twitter page.<\/p>\n

"Obviously you guys would have seen a lot of media around the Early Crow," Papley said.<\/p>\n

"We've learnt from our mistakes. We know it's very important to gamble responsibly. Going forward we will be very careful in what we say."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Despite Papley taking accountability, leading AFL journalist Damien Barrett \ufefftold 'The Sounding Board' podcast that the Swans should be concerned.<\/p>\n

Players could be suspended or handed a hefty fine if they are caught betting on AFL games.\ufeff<\/p>\n

North Melbourne forward Jaidyn Stephenson was handed a 22 match ban back in 2019, with 12 suspended and a $20,000 fine<\/a> after confessing he placed bets on games he played in while he was at Collingwood.<\/p>\n
