F\ufeffour-time AFL<\/a> premiership star Isaac smith has announced his retirement from professional football.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old was a key member of Hawthorn<\/a>'s mighty threepeat side\ufeff of 2013-2015, before moving to Geelong<\/a> where he won last year's grand final.<\/p>\n

Smith won the Norm Smith Medal for best player on the field as he lifted the Cats to the title.<\/p>\n

He was the oldest player to ever win the medal, kicking three goals in Geelong's 81-point win over Sydney.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He's played 277 AFL games all up across a stellar career that began in round seven of the 2011 season.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I am so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play AFL football, it is every kid's dream growing up and to have that play out for me across the last 13 seasons at two great clubs is something really special," Smith said upon announcing his retirement.<\/p>\n

"From the time I walked into Hawthorn, and now being at Geelong, I have always felt right at home at both organisations and to this day have made some very special friendships and bonds with a lot of people."<\/p>\n

Smith will hang up the boots once Geelong's 2023 season is finished.<\/p>\n
