Controversial Aussie basketball star Liz Cambage<\/a> has sensationally claimed she is in the process of filing to change her national allegiance to represent Nigeria.<\/p>\n

But that bombshell has been shot down by Nigerian players themselves.\ufeff<\/p>\n

On a Bleacher Report podcast released this week, Cambage says she is "in cahoots" with the team she was accused of racially vilifying during an explosive game that led to her essentially being kicked out of Opals camp.<\/p>\n

In a practice match against Nigeria ahead of the 2021 Tokyo Games, Cambage struck an opponent with her elbow, before allegedly using the word "monkeys".<\/p>\n

It was alleged she followed that up by telling them to "go back to (their) third world country"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCambage – who was the Opals' best player and a four-time WNBA All-Star – left camp before the Games<\/a> and has not been seen in Australian colours since.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old has also since fallen out with her WNBA team, the Los Angeles Sparks<\/a>, and left the league shrouded in more controversy.<\/p>\n

Now the towering Aussie has again ruffled feathers, speaking about the Nigerian incident before making a bold reveal.<\/p>\n

"A lot of girls don't like me," she said on the new podcast.<\/p>\n

"I don't really lean towards racially backed insults. That's not how I go. I'm very pro-black. I don't say those things to those girls.<\/p>\n

\"Foster<\/p>\n

"The truth looks a lot worse for other organisations involved, than using me as a scapegoat.<\/p>\n

"We're filing for me to leave the Australian team so I can represent Nigeria.<\/p>\n

"I've been in cahoots, I've been talking to them since all of this happened. This is what I mean, people don't know the truth."<\/p>\n

Veteran Nigerian player Promise Amukamara wasted no time in moving to hose down the Cambage claim.<\/p>\n

"I'm sorry but this is false," \ufeffAmukamara tweeted.<\/p>\n

Cambage is theoretically eligible to represent the African nation, given her father is Nigerian.<\/p>\n
