S\ufeffouth Sydney<\/a> legend Sam Burgess<\/a> has landed his first head coaching job in professional rugby league.<\/p>\n

Burgess, 34 and originally from England, has been announced as the new Warrington Wolves<\/a> coach in the Super League.<\/p>\n

He famously played through the 2014 NRL grand final after fracturing his cheekbone in the first tackle of the game, leading the Rabbitohs to glory.<\/p>\n

He began his playing career with Bradford in the Super League\ufeff before heading Down Under to wear the famous cardinal and myrtle, and became a Bunnies icon.<\/p>\n

The powerful forward \ufeffplayed 182 NRL games – punctuated by a short stint playing rugby in England – highlighted by the 2014 season in which he won a premiership, a Clive Churchill Medal, was named Dally M lock of the year, and the RLIF player of the year.<\/p>\n

He also played 26 Tests for England.\ufeff<\/p>\n

A degenerative injury forced his premature retirement in 2019 but he soon took up coaching roles with South Sydney.<\/p>\n

Now he heads to the Wolves, who last week missed out on signing Justin Holbrook as their new head coach.<\/p>\n

Burgess has signed a two-year deal.<\/p>\n
