T\ufeffhe NRL<\/a> has cracked down on another ugly referee exchange after Raiders<\/a> playmaker Jack Wighton<\/a> accused a whistle-blower of "trying hard" to help Wests Tigers win on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Wighton fired choice words at referee Peter Gough after being penalised for a high tackle on Wests Tigers\ufeff centre Starford To'a in the dying moments of the game in the nation's capital, won by Canberra 22-18<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"You're trying hard to give this to them," Wighton said as Wests Tigers hounded the Raiders deep in Canberra territory.<\/p>\n

Gough hit back.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"If you want to stay on the field, stop," he said.<\/p>\n

The referee did not send Wighton to the sin bin, but the match review committee slapped the former State of Origin representative with a grade-one contrary-conduct charge and a $3000 fine.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe Wighton incident followed a furore involving Broncos fullback Reece Walsh and referee Chris Buttler in June<\/a>, which led to the young gun copping a three-match suspension.<\/p>\n

Walsh was found guilty at the NRL judiciary of saying to the referee, "\ufeffWhat the f— do you mean, c—?".<\/p>\n

The Raiders' clash with Wests Tigers was marred by several controversies, including a Sebastian Kris try that stemmed from a forward pass.<\/p>\n

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens\ufeff lashed multiple referee decisions in his press conference and said he would take up his frustrations with the NRL.<\/p>\n

The fifth-placed Raiders will face the fourth-placed Storm in Melbourne on Sunday.<\/p>\n
