A\ufeffFL<\/a> media personality Eddie McGuire<\/a> has revealed rumours the NRL<\/a> poached the AFL's grand final entertainment after a "dispute" between the organisation and band Crowded House.<\/p>\n

Radio presenter Ross Stevenson \ufeffbroke the news on 3AW Breakfast that Crowded House had withdrawn from the AFL grand final, stating they pulled out last week.<\/p>\n

McGuire's belief is there was a "dispute" between both parties over staging for the event. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'm understanding from our breakfast team there was a dispute that came in between the AFL and Crowded House as to the stage position on the MCG on grand final day," he said on Nine's Eddie and Jimmy<\/em><\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

"Which makes sense to me because if you stick them up in that back corner like Meatloaf it's not great.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffOut in the middle of the ground, that could work, (but) there's a lot of cost involved in that.<\/p>\n

"I don't know what the situation is, I've been talking to people this morning, trying to get on to a lot of people hiding at the moment.<\/p>\n

"If that's the case, that could be a dea\ufeffl-breaker."<\/p>\n

After continuing with his push for the AFL to play the grand final at night<\/a>, \ufeffMcGuire shed more light on the situation, discussing a rumour around poaching from the NRL.<\/p>\n

"It's highly unusual in my mind for an \ufeffact like Crowded House to pull the pin for something like that. You can work around it, it doesn't quite fit for me," he said.<\/p>\n

"I was \ufeffspeaking, completely separate, to one of Australia's most influential and in the know people when it comes to show business … who had no idea about the AFL and Crowded House. And I mentioned to this particular person 'I've heard this morning that Crowded House have pulled out' and his first reaction was 'yeah they're doing the NRL grand final'.<\/p>\n

"I've subsequently rung Channel Nine in Sydney and they've said … 'not to my knowledge, \ufeffthe last update didn't have them on the bill'.<\/p>\n

"My understanding is that the NRL grand final is going to have a huge Tina Turner component … you play that and everyone goes nuts with the lights, the music … they're already 40-love on serve as part of having the best entertainment."<\/p>\n

After checking with the ARL commission chairman Peter V'landys<\/a> over the rumours, McGuire received a text message from the league boss midway through the podcast. \ufeff<\/p>\n

'Hi mate, \ufeffnot to my knowledge. Also checked with my CEO (Andrew Abdo) and he has no knowledge of it either," the text read.<\/p>\n

McGuire went on to say the news was "both a disappointment and an opportunity" for the AFL, calling on it to promote local, up and coming, Australian artists.<\/p>\n
