M\ufeffitchell Marsh<\/a>'s phenomenal month at the top level has produced another highlight with the all-rounder winning the nod as captain of the Australian men's T20 side on Monday, according to 9News.<\/p>\n

A month after the Western Australian stormed back onto the Test scene with a run-a-ball 118 at Headingley in the men's Ashes<\/a>, he's been appointed as Aaron Finch<\/a>'s T20 captaincy successor.<\/p>\n

The captaincy role had been\ufeff vacant since Finch retired from international cricket in February<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The appointment comes just under 12 months out from the next T20 World Cup, to be held in the Caribbean and the United States in June next year.<\/p>\n

Marsh, 31, will take on his first assignment as T20 skipper on Australia's limited-overs tour of South Africa, beginning on August 31.<\/p>\n

Marsh will captain Australia in three T20s before Pat Cummins skippers\ufeff the visitors in five one-dayers.<\/p>\n

Marsh was heroic as Australia took out its first men's T20 World Cup title in the United Arab Emirates in 2021,\ufeff blasting an unbeaten 77 in a player-of-the-match performance to lead his side to an eight-wicket triumph in the final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After Marsh claimed a five-wicket haul in the fifth Test of the 2019 Ashes, he admitted to feeling like "most of Australia hate me".<\/p>\n

His rise to the T20 captaincy is a testament to his resilience in the face of intense scrutiny, which was a product of him repeatedly being selected for the Test side despite underwhelming performances with the bat and ball between 2014 and 2019.<\/p>\n
