Australia has claimed a record 12th Netball World Cup<\/a> after a dominant victory over England in the final in South Africa early Monday morning.<\/p>\n

The Diamonds<\/a> lost to the Roses in their final group stage clash, but rallied in the decider to win 61-45.<\/p>\n

The 16-goal win is Australia's biggest ever at a World Cup.<\/p>\n

It was the perfect send-off for retiring star Ash Brazill, who said their earlier loss to the Roses fired the side up for the final.<\/p>\n

"For the last 10 minutes, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face," she said after the match.<\/p>\n

"England beat us in the rounds and everyone loved targeting us, Helen (Housby, England star) said they were fitter and more energetic than us and that just got everyone fighting.<\/p>\n

"We really wanted to beat Jamaica (in the semi-final) so we could play against these guys again, and we've done it the way we wanted to. The last two games were some of the best netball we've played in a long time.<\/p>\n

"I'm so proud of these girls. The fact we're standing here as world champions, I just couldn't wish for a better ending. I'll never play netball again \u2013 how can I top this?"<\/p>\n

Both sides spent the first quarter feeling each other out, heading into the first break locked at 13-all.<\/p>\n

But from there, it was all the Diamonds. They carried a four-goal lead into half time, before a 19-13 third term meant they could manage the final quarter to get home.<\/p>\n

But the Aussies maintained the intensity, winning the final quarter 15-9.<\/p>\n

The final was the first since 1995 to not be a trans-Tasman affair, the Roses defeating New Zealand in the semi-final on Sunday morning (AEST).<\/p>\n

They also lost to Jamaica in the third-place playoff game. It's their worst performance at a Netball World Cup in the history of the competition.<\/p>\n
