A bench-clearing melee that began with Tim Anderson of the Chicago White Sox and Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez of the Cleveland Guardians exchanging punches at second base in the sixth inning led to six ejections during Chicago\u2019s baseball<\/a> victory over Cleveland.<\/p>\n

Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, manager Terry Francona and third base coach Mike Sarbaugh, and White Sox manager Pedro Grifol also were ejected for their actions during a 15-minute brawl that included three additional flare-ups.<\/p>\n

Post-game, Ramirez told media<\/a> the issue had been bubbling away for some time. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI think he's been disrespecting the game for a while, it's not from yesterday or from before," he told Bally Sports through a translator.<\/p>\n

"I even had a chance to tell him through the game, 'don't do this stuff, be respectful, don't start tagging people like that', because in reality \ufeffwe're here trying to find ways to provide for our families and if that was the thing he does on the base it can get someone out of the game so for me I was telling him to stop doing that.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffAs soon as the play happened he tagged me at the end really hard, more than needed, and his reaction was 'I want to fight' and I had to defend myself."<\/p>\n

When asked about Ramirez's right hook, Cleveland's manager Terry Francona was short in his thoughts on the incident<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"It's not funny … but boys will be boys," Francona said after the loss.<\/p>\n

Francona told reporters he wasn't exactly sure what prompted the fight, but said that before the brawl, Anderson had been told by one of the umpires to stop jawing at Guardians rookie Gabriel Arias.<\/p>\n

Ramirez and Anderson likely face suspensions, and perhaps other participants do as well. The teams play their series finale Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Grifol didn't want to comment directly about the ugly incident.<\/p>\n

"There are a lot of people upset," he said. "Thank god I haven't heard of any news out of the trainer's room. I'm not going to talk about it. I'm going to let MLB<\/a> figure this out. They've got some work to do."<\/p>\n

Anderson, who was led to the dugout by his teammates and forced down the steps, eventually returned to the scrum, before being surrounded by teammates again. He did not speak with reporters after the game.<\/p>\n

"We love Timmy," White Sox shortstop Elvis Andrus said. "We're always going to support him and have his back. He plays with passion and gives 100 percent on the field. Stuff like this happens."<\/p>\n

Andrus hit a two-run homer and Vaughn, Luis Robert Jr. and \u00d3scar Col\u00e1s each had a solo shot off Guardians starter Noah Syndergaard (1-5), who allowed a career-high four home runs in his initial outing at Progressive Field.<\/p>\n

White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech (5-10) carried a no-hitter into the sixth and exited after allowing two runs in 5 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n

He improved to 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA in five career starts against Cleveland.<\/p>\n

Syndergaard, acquired from the Dodgers in a July 26 trade for Amed Rosario, worked six innings and gave up five runs, all on homers.<\/p>\n

Andrus and Robert stole two bases apiece with the right-hander on the mound.<\/p>\n

Despite his side losing, Ramirez was able to get the last laugh with media when a reporter said "you know you knocked him down don't you?".<\/p>\n

"I feel like I was able to land one," he replied. \ufeff<\/p>\n
