Immediately after news confirming State of Origin<\/a> is heading back to Perth, New Zealand<\/a> has emerged as a possible host.<\/p>\n

\ufeffOptus Stadium, Perth, will host games in 2025 and 2028<\/a> following the NRL's double header in the city on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

9news reporter Michael Chammas said the NRL would speak with powerbrokers in the coming days. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's my understanding the NRL will pick up the phone this week to speak to Auckland Tourism about bringing the Origin game across the ditch to New Zealand to play at Eden Park in 2027," he said on Nine's Sunday afternoon half-time coverage.<\/p>\n

"The NRL are very keen\ufeff on making this happen, Auckland Tourism have reached out, they want to bring an Origin game over to New Zealand and it looks as though the NRL, if all falls into line, will play that game at Eden Park in 2027.<\/p>\n

"(It's a) huge development \ufefffor the NRL to play their first Origin game in New Zealand and hopefully on the back of Perth securing a few more games it will see Origin taken across the ditch."<\/p>\n

While there will be excitement at the potential decision, NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler explained the hurdles that would need to be crossed before it's confirmed.<\/p>\n

"I think the way that it is at the moment with one game being played in an independent venue is a good idea," he said.<\/p>\n

\"2023<\/p>\n

"The thing is when you're playing in New Zealand that means you're going to have to play it very late to get the benefit of a big audience.<\/p>\n

"I think there'll be some tough conversations had between whoever's got the rights at the time … the NRL and wherever it's going to go."\ufeff<\/p>\n
