The Ashes<\/a> might be over but that hasn't stopped the trash-talking from continuing between England and Australia.<\/p>\n

Now Nathan Lyon<\/a> has weighed in on his two-match cameo in this year's gripping 2-2 series that went down to the wire at The Oval.<\/p>\n

Lyon only featured in the first two Tests before a calf injury ruled him out.<\/p>\n

The veteran spinner played a crucial part in the two contests Australia won, fighting through the pain to bat on and put the visitors in a position to win at Lord's.<\/p>\n

Throughout the five-match series, the so-called 'Bazball' style of play was been employed by England to great effect, particularly after the home side fell in a 0-2 hole.<\/p>\n

However, speaking on SEN, Lyon said he was left bemused by England's inability to adapt to situations.<\/p>\n

England were shredded by some of their own for playing too aggressive at times, notably collapsing from 1-188 to be all out for 325 in the first innings of the second Test at Lord's.<\/p>\n

"I know everyone keeps talking about Bazball, to be honest, I didn't really see Bazball \u2026 throughout my two Tests again them," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

\"Lyon<\/p>\n

"I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors with Bazball, if I'm being honest with you, and I feel like if you're going to play an aggressive brand of cricket anyway, it's about being able to go up and down in gears and understanding the moments in the game."<\/p>\n

In any case, Lyon is optimistic he'll face England in another away Ashes, come 2027.<\/p>\n

Watching three Tests from the comfort of his couch had left him more motivated than ever to ensure he's on the plane for the next tour.<\/p>\n

He had played more than 100 consecutive Test matches before the injury.<\/p>\n

"I tell you one thing, I'm definitely not joking about going back to (the) Ashes," said Lyon.<\/p>\n

"I feel like having this injury, coming home and watching the guys play the three Test matches has really driven me to get back there and make sure I'm back playing cricket.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

"My hunger for the game has probably gone to a new level, this has allowed me to have a little bit more time off during my rehab, sit back, reflect and reset some goals and find a really decent purpose for me.<\/p>\n

"I'm definitely not writing off going back to England for the Ashes \u2026 the finish line for me hasn't even popped up in my eyesight yet, I've still got a lot of cricket left in me in my eyes and a lot to offer the Renegades, New South Wales cricket but also Australia."<\/p>\n

The next Ashes series will be played in Australia in the summer of 2025-2026.<\/p>\n

By the time the series returns to England in 2027, Australia will not have won the Ashes on enemy soil for nearly three decades. Lyon will also be 39.<\/p>\n
