Nathan Lyon<\/a> has put pen to paper to sign a three-year BBL<\/a> deal with the Melbourne Renegades<\/a>, leaving Sydney fans stunned.<\/p>\n

Lyon, who has been a stalwart for the Sydney Sixers<\/a> \ufeffsince 2011, confirmed the move to the "powerful" Renegades, which will see him committed to Melbourne until the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of the Melbourne Renegades," Lyon said on Friday.<\/p>\n

It comes after the Renegades also signed spin bowler Adam Zampa in another surprising move from the Melbourne Stars.<\/p>\n

Lyon expressed his excitement to be lining up with Zampa, with the pair also playing international cricket together for Australia over the years.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"(Marvel Stadium's) a place where I enjoy bowling, it tends to spin a little bit. I'm looking forward to hopefully joining up with 'Zamps' (Adam Zampa) in a really good partnership and putting a show on for the Renegades fans," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

Lyon also joins the likes of Aaron Finch\ufeff, Kane Richardson, Shaun Marsh and Renegades skipper Nic Maddinson, who all boast long BBL stints and international experience.<\/p>\n

"I've got some really good friends who are part of the Melbourne Renegades, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to come down," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

Lyon missed the last three Ashes test matches due to a serious calf strain that restricted him to crutches\ufeff<\/a>, but the fresh signing breathes a new lease of life into the 35-year-old's career.<\/p>\n

"There's a good group of senior players there who I've played a lot of cricket with internationally and also domestically, then you look at the younger guys throughout the roster \u2013 it's a pretty powerful squad in my eyes," Lyon said.<\/p>\n

The veteran, who has played 38 BBL games since his debut in 2011, is looming large with BBL|15 just around the corner.<\/p>\n

"I think we need to set the benchmark high, shoot for the finals and make sure we go and try to lift the trophy."<\/p>\n

The Renegades season begins on December 8, when they face Lyon's old side, the Sydney Sixers.<\/p>\n

Lyon is an unlikely inclusion however, with the international Test series against Pakistan beginning on December 14.\ufeff<\/p>\n
