Marcus Armstrong remains optimistic that his future in the IndyCar Series<\/a> is with Chip Ganassi Racing.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi is in the midst of his first season in North America off the back of three FIA Formula 2 Championship campaigns.<\/p>\n

The ex-Ferrari<\/a> junior has been the stand-out of the rookie drivers this year, despite having only contested a part-time campaign.<\/p>\n

Stan Sport is the only place to watch the 2023 IndyCar Series, featuring Will Power, Scott McLaughlin and Scott Dixon.<\/strong><\/em> All the action streaming ad free, live and on demand<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

His program is limited to road and street courses while Japan's Takuma Sato has steered the No.11 entry on ovals.<\/p>\n

Much has been said behind the scenes of Armstrong. The common belief is that he'll stick with Chip Ganassi Racing for 2024 with a move to a full-time program including ovals.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the Music City Grand Prix in Nashville, the 23-year-old said that's his goal.<\/p>\n

"Well, I mean, I haven't exactly kept it a secret, but I'd love to stay here at Chip Ganassi Racing," said Armstrong.<\/p>\n

"I think I've been reasonably vocal about trying ovals for the first time. It would be a dream come true to compete at the Indy 500."<\/p>\n

Chip Ganassi Racing has been a focal point for the IndyCar silly season with plenty said about two of its incumbents; Marcus Ericsson and Alex Palou.<\/p>\n

The two star drivers are expected to leave. Palou will likely land at McLaren while Ericsson is thought to be on his way to Andretti Autosport.<\/p>\n

Ericsson has reportedly been bemused by the need to bring budget to Chip Ganassi Racing having won the 2022 Indianapolis 500 and been a series front-runner in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n

If there is a change of tune in the Ganassi camp, then Ericsson could shift from the No.8 to the No.10 entry in place of Palou.<\/p>\n

There's also said to be interest in David Malukas, who currently competes for Dale Coyne Racing.<\/p>\n

With Ericsson now in the window to begin negotiations with other teams and Palou's window set to open on September 2 (AEST), it's a wait-and-see approach for Armstrong.<\/p>\n

"At the moment my focus is on just getting good results because my own results is going to help me in the long-term," Armstrong explained.<\/p>\n

"Yeah, it's not really in my hands on the contractual side, let's say.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"All I can do is just compete at the maximum of my ability, try and stay present, which is fairly easy seeing as though it's going well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The team, it's a very enjoyable environment. I feel like it's all training in the right direction. I just have to keep pumping out some good results."<\/p>\n

In his eight races to date, Armstrong has been a top 10 finisher in half of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Christchurch-born driver was in contention for a maiden podium until a bad strategy call deprived him of that chance at Road America.<\/p>\n

Most impressive is that he has been better than seven other drivers who have completed every race this season while Armstrong has missed four oval races.<\/p>\n

Armstrong will have four more chances to impress and make a case for his selection.<\/p>\n

"I think it's possible that we will have some very good results the next couple of races," he said.<\/p>\n

"I've said that from the beginning of the season really, straightaway right after the pre-season test, there will be a time this year where I feel like everything's going really well and I can achieve the result that I want.<\/p>\n

"I feel like we will be able to compete for a podium, as we did at Road America. My target isn't necessarily on, I want to win a race or I want to get podium, but I certainly want to be fast enough to win a race, then certainly be in the leading pack.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Get into a good rhythm, sort of arrive at the next race weekend hitting the ground running and be at the pointy end. Once I get over that hurdle of learning the nuances of this championship, I think that will help me a lot in the future."<\/p>\n
