Australia has been stunned by England<\/a> at the Netball World Cup<\/a>, with the Roses recording their first-ever win against the Diamonds<\/a> in the tournament's history.<\/p>\n

England and Australia had clashed 13 previous times at a World Cup, but the Roses had never prevailed until Thursday night's stunning 56-55 win in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

It took an incredible comeback to secure the upset win, after England found itself down by six goals at half-time, before trailing by as many as eight in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Shooter Eleanor Cardwell put England ahead with 47 seconds left on the clock before a wayward pass from Australia's Kiera Austin allowed the Roses to hold on for a famous win.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"We had a really good second quarter to get that lead but it was just silly mistakes in that third that got them that run back and made the game really close," Diamonds captain Liz Watson told Fox Sports after the loss.<\/p>\n

"They were stronger, they wanted it more, so (it was) a disappointing finish."<\/p>\n

Cardwell knocked down 34 of her 35 shot attempts, while NSW Swifts star Helen Housby went 22-for-22 to burn the Aussies.<\/p>\n

The result means England topped Group F in the second preliminary stage, with the second-placed Diamonds likely to face Jamaica in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Australia has won the Netball World Cup a record 11 times, but is hoping to recover from a crushing one-point loss to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup final this time around.\ufeff<\/p>\n
