M\ufeffatildas<\/a> fans have received the strongest indication yet that superstar striker Sam Kerr<\/a> will be fit to take the field on Monday night.<\/p>\n

During the brief 15-minute window\ufeff when media were allowed to observe Australian training on Thursday, Kerr was seen kicking a ball around, according to outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald.<\/p>\n

It's the first \ufefftime she's been spotted with a ball at her feet since suffering a calf injury while preparing for the FIFA Women's World Cup<\/a> opener a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n

The injury has kept her out of the three games to date – a 1-0 win over Ireland, a 1-3 loss to Nigeria, and Monday's 4-0 thumping of Canada in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Kerr was listed on the bench for the Canada game, but never warmed up and was not needed as the Aussies easily accounted for the reigning Olympic champions.<\/p>\n

She held a press conference on Saturday insisting she would be fit to play against Canada, but should be back to full fitness now after not being required.<\/p>\n

\ufeffStill, Australia has played games with the Kerr selection so far during the World Cup, leaving fans unsure about any messaging coming out of Matildas camp.<\/p>\n

Head coach Tony Gustavsson \ufeffin particular has come under fire for wishy-washy answers when grilled on Kerr's fitness – undoubtedly the biggest storyline for Australian football fans at the moment.<\/p>\n

"[With] calf injuries, one thing is that you're available but there's also risk when you come back from a muscle injury," Gustavsson told media on Sunday<\/a>, after Kerr had declared herself fit.<\/p>\n

"So we need to balance how many minutes is she available [with] what are the risks if we manage to go through to the playoffs [with] playing time and so on."<\/p>\n

The Matildas had a light training session on Thursday, will have a tougher one on Friday and then fly to Sydney where they will prepare ahead of Monday's game.<\/p>\n
