Shane van Gisbergen<\/a> has added another NASCAR<\/a> race to his schedule, this time in the third-tier Truck Series.<\/p>\n

The three-time Supercars<\/a> champion had already been confirmed to contest the Cup Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 14<\/a>, now he'll race in Truck Series two days earlier at the nearby 0.686-mile oval, Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP).<\/p>\n

It's the next step for van Gisbergen as he prepares to make the switch from Supercars to the NASCAR scene in 2024, all but confirming a move to the United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It will mark the first paved oval start for van Gisbergen and his first start in the Truck Series too, which acts as a development series to the second-tier Xfinity Series and top-tier Cup Series.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi will race for Niece Motorsport in a Chevrolet Silverado on Saturday (AEST) before heading to Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday and Monday (AEST) to compete for TrackHouse Racing in a Chevrolet Camaro.<\/p>\n

"The weekend will certainly be a challenge," said van Gisbergen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I've seen the trucks race on television and know it's very competitive and that I'll have a lot to learn on a short track at IRP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm used to doing double-headers in Supercars, but this will be a little bit different.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm honoured to join Niece Motorsports and thrilled at getting a chance to climb in a truck."<\/p>\n

Niece Motorsport is one of the top teams in the Truck Series. Its driver Carson Hocevar has already won three races this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We are so excited and so honoured to have Shane drive for us at IRP," said Niece Motorsports general manager Cody Efaw.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He's a legend in Australia and New Zealand, but what he did at Chicago has everyone in America talking about his talent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We will help him experience oval racing and I am guessing we will learn a lot from him as well."<\/p>\n

Adding the Truck Series race to his schedule is the next step towards making the switch to NASCAR in 2024.<\/p>\n

Based on comments at the latest Supercars round, it's thought van Gisbergen could compete part-time in the Cup Series next year alongside an oval program in either the Truck Series or Xfinity Series.<\/p>\n
