G\ufeffreater Western Sydney<\/a> has landed a huge coup by re-signing gun swingman Harry Himmelberg on a big new deal.<\/p>\n

The Giants fended off a number of rival AFL<\/a> clubs to extend the 27-year-old's contract by six years, taking him off the free agency market.<\/p>\n

It's reported Himmelberg will earn $800,000 a season on the deal, netting him at least $4.8 million across the term.<\/p>\n

Himmelberg has kicked 160 goals in 145 AFL games to date, but this season has transitioned into defence and proved equally adept in the backline.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Himmelberg, from Wagga Wagga in the Riverina, was taken with pick 16 in the 2015 draft, and made his AFL debut the following year.<\/p>\n

It's a major win for the Giants, who have a habit of losing star players to interstate rivals.<\/p>\n

"We've always been really confident Harry saw his future at the club and his signature is a great endorsement of our program on and off the field," club football manager Jason McCartney said.<\/p>\n

"Harry's been an important part of our club since his days in the Academy and has blossomed into a key member of our side.<\/p>\n

"His versatility as a player has never been more on show that this season when he's kicked important goals, taken incredible marks and then switched to defence where he's been ultra-consistent.<\/p>\n

"He's also continued to grow as a leader and is part of our emerging leaders' group, which is a great reflection of his value to our club.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The Giants next take on the Swans in the Sydney derby on Saturday.<\/p>\n
