All Blacks<\/a> lock Scott Barrett has explained why he targeted chirpy Wallabies<\/a> scrum-half Nic White in the opening Bledisloe Cup<\/a> contest.<\/p>\n

White was twice on the receiving end of a "shush" from Barrett in the Wallabies loss at the MCG, going down 38-7 in front of 83,000 fans.<\/p>\n

In the first instance, Barrett cleaned White out in a ruck in the 57th minute \u2013 the All Blacks star putting his finger on the Wallabies flyer as he complained to the referee.<\/p>\n

Then, after Caleb Clarke scored moments later in the 59th minute, Barrett motioned at White again to keep quiet.<\/p>\n

"In the heat of the battle there's probably a few words (to the ref) of holding him at the breakdown," said Barrett after the win.<\/p>\n

"Probably cleaned him out a couple of times earlier too so it wasn't the first time I heard him complain to the referee.<\/p>\n

"Not usually like me, I usually get back to halfway and worry about the kick-off.<\/p>\n

"I was quietly trying to say something there."<\/p>\n

Barrett put in one of his best performances in recent memory, punctuated by a thumping tackle on Tate McDermott that blew the ball out of his hands and opened the door for Shannon Frizell to score the first try of the match.<\/p>\n

The big No.5 was also a key part in a runaway try late in the contest that set up winger Rieko Ioane to score in the corner.<\/p>\n

The Wallabies have one more match against the All Blacks before heading to France for the Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n

The two sides go head-to-head for the final match of the Bledisloe Cup on Saturday, August 5 at 12.35pm (AEST).<\/p>\n
