The Dragons<\/a> have secured their first win of the NRLW<\/a> season with a 38-12 victory over the Eels<\/a> in Wollongong on Saturday. \ufeff<\/p>\n

While it was a strong showing from the Dragons, not everything went to plan in defence with \ufeffa blunder from winger Teagan Berry coughing up a try in the 50th minute.<\/p>\n

As \ufeffRosemarie Beckett fired a kick into the in-goal, Berry allowed the ball to roll instead of nudging the ball over the dead ball line and out of danger.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for \ufeffBerry, the ball sat up and opposing winger Monique Donovan swooped in to get a hand to it and score.<\/p>\n

"She took a big risk and her pants have been pulled down," Brenton Speed said in commentary for Nine.<\/p>\n

"(Donovan) absolutely snaked that one," Ruan Simms added.<\/p>\n

Leading 24-8 \ufeffwith 20 minutes left to play, league legend Phil Gould couldn't work out Berry's logic.<\/p>\n

"Well she's there, she's got it. She just had to knock it dead," he said.<\/p>\n

"Leading 24 points to eight, there's no real reason to gamble, just knock it dead and back your defence to defend again.<\/p>\n

"Now you give the Eels some oxygen."<\/p>\n

On debut, Margot Vella bagged herself a double which included the opening try just two-and-a-half minutes into the match.<\/p>\n

The response from the Eels came 10 minutes later as winger Cassey Tohi-Hiku defies two defenders to sneak through a hole.<\/p>\n

The Dragons then built themselves a nice cushion as \ufeffa pin-point kick from \ufeffcaptain Raecene McGregor found Cortez Te Pou with space to score before Berry muscled the ball over for her first of the match.<\/p>\n

Referee Wyatt Raymond originally rubbed out the try, deeming \ufeffBerry to have grounded the ball before the line, but the Bunker soon cleared up any mistake.<\/p>\n

In a moment of deja vu, \ufeffMcGregor and Te Pou combined again to recreate their earlier try and give the Dragons a 20-4 lead at half time.<\/p>\n

Starting the second half the same as the first, \ufeffVella dove over to hit the scoreboard before the chain breaker for Parramatta came from Mahalia Murphy.<\/p>\n

A short swing in momentum to favour the Eels was dashed as \ufeffDragons prop Roxy Murdoch barged over the line before Berry put her earlier error behind her – running over two Eels defenders and reaching behind her head to score.<\/p>\n

A final try \ufefffrom T\ufeffyla Nathan-Wong shored up the result for the Dragons.<\/p>\n

The victory marks two on the trot for the Dragons as they look to their round three match against the Roosters on Thursday.<\/p>\n
