Brisbane<\/a>'s Tyson Smoothy was denied his maiden NRL<\/a> try against the Roosters<\/a>, and the tackler wasn't even wearing a tri-colours shirt.<\/p>\n

As the Broncos attacked to the right hand side at the Gabba on Thursday night, referee Grant Atkins inadvertently found himself in the firing line when Reece Walsh<\/a> threw an inside pass to Smoothy.<\/p>\n

With only Atkins between him and the tryline, Smoothy was certain to score.<\/p>\n

The incident happened on the hour mark, with the Broncos already holding a comfortable 20-0 lead.<\/p>\n

"It's a try-saver from Grant Atkins \u2026 best tackle of his career," Nine commentator Peter Psaltis said.<\/p>\n

Through fits of laughter, Cameron Smith saw the serious side.<\/p>\n

"How dirty would you be? The line was wide open," he said.<\/p>\n

And in the coaches box, Kevin Walters was less than impressed. He could clearly be seen saying, "get out of the f–king way".<\/p>\n

After the match, Walters praised the referees on how often they manage to stay out of the way of collisions.<\/p>\n

"I'm not sure what's happened with poor old Ty, he'll have to wait another week or two (to score his first try)," he said.<\/p>\n

"He was in the right place, like a good traditional hooker, he's down the middle of the field. It wasn't a player that got in the road it was the poor old referee.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I've got to take hat off to the referees as they do a great job of avoiding those collisions, but we got one tonight unfortunately for Tyson."<\/p>\n

The Broncos were back to their best against the Roosters, running in five tries to two \u2013 including a double to Ezra Mam \u2013 to run out 32-10 winners.<\/p>\n

Adam Reynolds was faultless with the boot, nailing all six attempts, including a penalty goal midway through the first half.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They once again sit clear on top of the ladder, but the Panthers take on the Sharks on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
