NRL great Johnathan Thurston<\/a> has questioned why Broncos<\/a> star Payne Haas<\/a> is testing himself on the open market after helping his side to a 32-10 victory over the Roosters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Haas was at his damaging best, chalking up 16 runs for 171 metres along with four tackle breaks.<\/p>\n

NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler described the prop, who's making $850,000 a year at Brisbane, as one of the big differences between both teams. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"The biggest wrap you can give to Payne is they stopped going forward when he went off and then when the Roosters started to get control, the coach went straight to their gun \ufeff… and all of a sudden they scored another try," he said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

The prop played the opening 50 minutes for the Broncos, with the score 20-0 upon his departure.<\/p>\n

By the time he returned to the field in the 73rd minute, the Roosters had staged a mini fightback to make it 26-10\ufeff, but a try to Ezra Mam sealed the win.<\/p>\n

After Haas' manager informed clubs in mid-June that he'd be free to negotiate with rival clubs<\/a> from November 1, \ufeffThurston expressed his confusion at the decision.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWhy is he testing himself in the market? I'm just trying to figure it out," he said on Nine.<\/p>\n

"I think the Broncos can win a premiership or two over the next few years … it looked like a very happy team."<\/p>\n

Fittler agreed, saying: "It's hard to understand, it might be just money."<\/p>\n

The Broncos scored three unanswered tries in the first 34 minutes, along with a penalty goal, to lead 20-0. Herbie Farnworth and Mam both went over for four-pointers while Patrick Carrigan scored the first of his career.<\/p>\n

Roosters centre Billy Smith put the Roosters on the board in the 65th minute, but his Broncos counterpart Kotoni Staggs hit back moments later.<\/p>\n

Daniel Tupou gave his side a sniff with 10 minutes left but Mam's runaway try at the death put the result beyond doubt.<\/p>\n

\ufeffNext week, the Roosters will face Manly on Thursday while the Broncos are up against North Queensland on Saturday.<\/p>\n
