Queensland<\/a> legends Wally Lewis<\/a> and Darren Lockyer<\/a> believe Reece Walsh<\/a> has the potential to wear the No.1 jersey for the Kangaroos<\/a>, with the Broncos star's stellar performances capturing the attention of Australian selectors.<\/p>\n

The Broncos star has wasted no time showing his opponents he has what it takes to play representative football, making his Origin debut for Queensland earlier this season and revealing he is prepared to take on the challenge playing on the international stage.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World of Sports' QLDER<\/em><\/a>, the Queensland greats were asked who they believe should be picked to play at fullback for the Kangaroos if a Test match is to happen later this season, to which Lockyer refused.<\/p>\n

Lockyer, who is on the Australian selection panel, revealed he believes the star is prepared to take on the challenge of international football in the future but fears the 21-year-old's lack of experience at club and representative level will hold him back from contention.<\/p>\n

\"Reece<\/p>\n

"There is no doubt Reece's time will come but Tedesco is the incumbent Australian captain," Lockyer said.<\/p>\n

"We know [Walsh] is talented and has been able to play on the biggest stage at Origin and have an impact.<\/p>\n

"I would say he is the most dangerous [fullback]… but the important games are starting to come up. This is where the cream floats to the top.<\/p>\n

"This is the big test. He got into the Origin arena and he passed that. Now his next big test is the next six weeks and the finals."<\/p>\n

Lewis noted Walsh's Kangaroos debut would be at the expense of Tedesco, adding that the Roosters star will be prepared to elevate his game to maintain his position in coach Mal Meninga's team.<\/p>\n

"When you come up against a challenge like that – when you're playing against a guy where there is whispers in the paper 'could it be this guy being preferred to this guy' for the Australian side or the representative side you produce your best performance," Lewis said.<\/p>\n

"Your preparation for that game is at an all time high, and you know that you're at your best to please one person in particular. It's not the selectors, it's yourself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"You are always your own hardest marker when you don't perform to the ability that you believe you should be.<\/p>\n

"It's harder to get out of the Australian side than it is to get into the Australian side."<\/p>\n

The Roosters star has had a successful run as captain for Australia, leading the side to victory in last year's Rugby League World Cup in England.<\/p>\n

Lockyer noted the 30-year-old's ability to meet the needs of the team in times of trouble, with Tedesco set to take on the young fullback during the Roosters' clash against the Broncos<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n

"Tedesco's game three Origin was outstanding," said Lockyer.<\/p>\n

"He was outstanding for the Roosters on the weekend. They are two in-form fullbacks\u2026 it's going to be a good match-up."<\/p>\n

Lewis revealed that despite his belief in Walsh's ability to take on international football, there are many other talented fullbacks in the league who may outrank the star's talents.<\/p>\n

"It will be quite interesting to see how far he goes," Lewis said.<\/p>\n

"I thought Walsh's injection into the game [Broncos vs Rabbitohs] was absolutely superb \u2026 as long as he continues to do so for the Broncos we will be happy.<\/p>\n

"But I think we have had some really good performers at fullback this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It will be quite entertaining to watch."<\/p>\n
