T\ufeffhe Dolphins<\/a> have locked down State of Origin<\/a> forward Tom Gilbert on a long contract extension.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has extended his deal by three years, now committing to the southern Queensland club until the end of 2028.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHe follows teammates Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jeremy Marshall-King, and Connelly Lemuelu in extending their deals with the NRL's newest team.<\/p>\n

"As a Brisbane boy it has been a great experience to see an NRL team flourish in the region I grew up in," Gilbert said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"It's also been a privilege to do it alongside this group of players and with my family right by my side.<\/p>\n

"You can see that the Dolphins are set up for a bright future and I want to be part of it."<\/p>\n

The Dolphins will add Thomas Flegler to the forward pack next year, while backs Jake Averillo and Herbie Farnworth also join the roster for 2024.<\/p>\n

Gilbert made his NRL debut for North Queensland in 2020 and played 47 games for the Cowboys before moving home to Brisbane this year to join the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

He made his Origin debut for Queensland in game three last year, and played in game one of the 2023 series but suffered a shoulder injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The injury ended his season.<\/p>\n
