Cowboys coach Todd Payten has accused Eels halfback Mitchell Moses of "refereeing" after Valentine Holmes<\/a> was sin binned for a hit on him.\ufeff<\/p>\n

After originally leaving commentators in awe for the shot on Moses, Holmes will face scrutiny from the match review committee for the tackle that resulted in severe punishment.<\/p>\n

Holmes ran in hard from the edge and shut off a Moses play, but upon review the Bunker judged his contact on the halfback was "direct and forceful".\ufeff The Cowboys went on to defeat the Eels 24-16.<\/p>\n

While attempting to defend his star centre, Cowboys<\/a> captain Chad Townsend<\/a> fumed when addressing referee Grant Atkins.<\/p>\n

Post-game, Payten disagreed with the decision and was strong with his view. <\/p>\n

"I thought it was the wrong call, definitely \ufeffwasn't forceful contact to the head because the speed that Val was coming in, to the speed that Mitch was coming in, if that's forceful contact then he's going to hospital or he's going to get a HIA assessment," he said. <\/p>\n

"I thought it was good contact on the ball and whiplash made it look \ufeffworse than what it was and it was great refereeing by Mitch."<\/p>\n

At half time, rugby league Immortal Mal Meninga said he was "not quite sure" about the decision.<\/p>\n

"The impact is enormous and it was a great defensive read, I don't know, I think Val's impact created Mitchell's head to go back and come forward again … it's an interesting one, I'm not quite sure," he said on Fox League.<\/p>\n

Fellow Queensland legend \ufeffCooper Cronk was confused over why Moses wasn't sent for a head injury assessment after the incident.<\/p>\n

"The Bunker said direct and forceful, as soon as that language is used, it's gone but then Moses isn't checked for HIA or gone for protocols so it's interesting," he said.<\/p>\n

"I get why they did it, it didn't look great and the impact was horrific to be fair but Moses continued to play on."\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Cowboys continued to suffer a number of setbacks throughout the match, with Griffin Neame going off for a HIA after the incident and ultimately failing.<\/p>\n

Star second-rower Jeremiah Nanai also left the field early in the second half with a shoulder complaint and failed to return to the field.<\/p>\n

In further carnage, Eels gun Shaun Lane suffered a heavy concussion in the second half when connecting with Townsend's knee. In the same incident, Lane also dislocated his elbow after awkward contact.<\/p>\n
