It was a tough day for most players at the British Open<\/a>, but spare a thought for\ufeff three spectators who had to receive medical attention after copping the worst of errant shots on the opening day.<\/p>\n

One of those fans, Christopher Ineson, failed to duck amid shouts of "fore" after a shot from Australian Adam Scott<\/a> sailed his way.<\/p>\n

The fan\ufeff was treated by medical staff at the event and was so dazed he did not recognise Scott as he came over to apologise.<\/p>\n

"It was a drive off the 18th, full toss, it didn't bounce," he told London's Telegraph Sport<\/em> while nursing his sore head. "I heard the shout of fore and everyone ducked. I saw my mate duck and then it hit me right on the back of the head."<\/p>\n

A concerned Scott walked over to see if Ineson was all right and then handed him a signed glove, with the message "sorry mate".<\/p>\n

The golf fan said he planned to have the glove framed.<\/p>\n

"This is what happens when you take a day off work!" Ineson posted online.<\/p>\n

"It was a real shock," he said while pointing to a three-centimetre gash on the back of his head. "This was supposed to be our day. We both love the golf but my mate's more of a golfer than I am, although I go to the range.<\/p>\n

"We had followed [Tommy] Fleetwood the whole way around. We'd been around 17 holes and then coming to the 18th, we were deciding who to follow next, maybe Rory [McIlroy], and the next thing I knew I was lying on the ground.<\/p>\n

"Obviously, the first thing you do is try to stand back up but I had about three hands on my head, saying, 'Just stay there'.<\/p>\n

"I saw the medics and I had to lie down on a buggy and be driven across the course, which is incredibly embarrassing.<\/p>\n

"There's no concussion. It's very sore, but you would have to be incredibly unlucky for it to be seriously injured."<\/p>\n

Of his meeting with Australian Scott, he added: "I didn't know who he was \u2013 I just saw a tall man ask if I was OK and just hand me the glove. It was a nice touch."<\/p>\n

Scott, Cameron Smith and Jason Day all finished the day at one-over par\ufeff.<\/p>\n

South African amateur Christo Lamprecht made three birdies over his last six holes and posted a five-under 66 to become the first amateur in 12 years to share the 18-hole lead at the Open.<\/p>\n

Local hero Fleetwood ran off three straight birdies on the back nine at Royal Liverpool to join him atop the leaderboard.<\/p>\n
