Jillaroos<\/a> great Ruan Sims<\/a> has called for the NRL to introduce a third game to the women's State of Origin<\/a> schedule following the bizarre aftermath of the series finale in Townsville.<\/p>\n

For the first time in the league's history, two State of Origin matches were played in the women's league.<\/p>\n

Queensland proved to be the dominant team in Game I claiming victory over New South Wales 18-10, but were unable to claim victory on their home turf in Game II.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite New South Wales winning the second and final game, celebrations were muted as Queensland was awarded the State of Origin shield due to points differential<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sims believes the NRL needs to replicate the same Origin format used in the men's league – including scheduling the series to be played during the footy season – in order to produce a game that showcases a higher quality of play.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wide World of Sports' NRL Weekly<\/em><\/a>, Sims proposed the NRL make changes to the NRLW roster to produce a higher quality of play to the women's State of Origin fixture.<\/p>\n

"I think the calendar next year will have to look different for [Origin] to slot in so that we make sure we have really high-quality football in the lead-up to it and have those three games be of the utmost high standard," she said.<\/p>\n

"Everyone was a little bit rusty and I know the NRL wants to have the best product out there.<\/p>\n

"The reason the game in Canberra last year was so good and the quality was so high was because we had just come off the back of an NRLW season.'<\/p>\n

"I know that particularly for New South Wales, we were not happy with how we played in game one. We knew that we were much better than that. [Game I] was not a great game of football. 30 combined errors across two teams – that's not good.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The second game stepped up another level because the players had then been in NRLW pre-season for four weeks. They had a lot more football under their belts\u2026 their muscle memory was built back up again."<\/p>\n

Sims revealed she believes the players deserve to be able to play three State of Origin games following the response and attention the game has drawn in recent years.<\/p>\n

"I don't like it as a lead-up," Sims said.<\/p>\n

"I would have loved to have seen three games\u2026 I've always wanted three.<\/p>\n

"I'm pretty sure [the series] is going to go to three now because the attention around it has been massive and deserves three games.<\/p>\n

\"Gal's<\/p>\n

"I knew Townsville would turn up\u2026 I knew that they would love it but still over 18 000 people rocking up. It was phenomenal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I know that [the NRL] will look at it because they want to make sure that this is successful. "<\/p>\n

Sims suggested the introduction of a third game would eliminate confusion amongst the players, noting that a couple of Queensland players were confused as they lifted the shield after losing the match in a drawn series.<\/p>\n

"It was a really strange [feeling]," said Sims.<\/p>\n

"I spoke to a couple of the Queensland girls after [the game] and they said that it felt really weird.<\/p>\n

"They won the series but they lost the game, and we [NSW] had lost the series but won the game.<\/p>\n

"That's why I'm pushing straight for three."<\/p>\n
