Barely a day after Alastair Clarkson<\/a> said a premature return to full-time coaching would be "disrespectful", North Melbourne<\/a> has set a date for his comeback.<\/p>\n

Having stood down after round nine to focus on his mental health<\/a>, Clarkson will return to the helm of the Kangaroos in round 21 \u2013 a home game against the Demons on August 6.<\/p>\n

Before then, the Kangaroos will take on St Kilda at Marvel Stadium and West Coast in Perth.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The club announced last month Clarkson would complete a month-long transition back to full-time work. On Tuesday, he led his first training session since his return.<\/p>\n

Brett Ratten has been acting in the role since Clarkson stood down. Clarkson will shadow Ratten until he takes over fully.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to 9News on Tuesday<\/a>, Clarkson said he was keen to "repay the faith" the club had shown in him by allowing him to take time off, but admitted there was "no urgency" to jump back into the fray.<\/p>\n

"Repay the faith\ufeff, get back on this journey with the Kangas, getting off the canvas and back being relevant again," Clarkson told 9News on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"It might be that I don't coach again this year. It would be a little bit disrespectful … if I just walk back into the club.<\/p>\n

"Its probably more likely that it will be later rather than sooner."<\/p>\n

Kangaroos chief executive Jennifer Watt said Clarkson was ready to return.<\/p>\n

"We're so pleased that Alastair can return to the role of senior coach. The time away was critical for Alastair to address his physical and mental health and it's obvious to everyone that he's hungry and ready to resume his place as our senior coach," Watt said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Alastair, and indeed the whole club, has been incredibly grateful to Brett Ratten and the entire coaching group, for stepping up in his absence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We have been very purposeful with Alastair's return and integration back into the program to ensure a seamless transition for our playing group and to provide Alastair with the time to reacquaint himself with both the game and the program.<\/p>\n

"I'd like to reiterate the club's thanks to Brett, Todd Viney, and all the players and staff at the club for the hard work they've done while Alastair has been away.<\/p>\n

"Our members and supporters also deserve great credit for the way they have stuck by the club over what has been a really trying period."<\/p>\n
